Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, May 22, 2020
Message From the Principal:
Hello parents,
This newsletter contains important information on our end-of-the-year events. Please be sure to read that letter in it's entirety. There is also information on how to return items to school and to pick up belongings from your child's locker. This pick up/drop off will occur during the last week of school according to the schedule provided.
Congratulations are extended to our recent National Honor Society inductees! A formal ceremony will hopefully occur for each of them in the fall.
Enjoy the rest of this newsletter and your Memorial Day weekend!
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli

The club’s outreach has continued to maintain a sense of community among the students as well as unite members in the community in the spirit of service. The Club Mentors are Sherrie Davis and Anthony Reagan.
Mrs. Godin’s Science Class
My students were used to working independently and I’m happy to report we have had a rather seamless transition. Students have access to an e-text on Pearson at the beginning of every unit, with built in summative assessments, supported by a variety of videos on (Pearson or Edpuzzle). They can also access virtual inquiries, labs and experiments as an explore section of the program. All students are invited for a zoom session to go over the lesson on Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, students are typically assigned virtual inquiries to help them summarize and postulate outcome and/or determine a causality before closing the unit with a short summative assessment. Their teacher is available to all students for questions and group discussions on Google hangout all day from 8 -3 pm Monday-Friday. Individual learning sessions or catch up sessions are typically scheduled on Fridays from 1-2 pm. As always students can retake any assignments if they score less than 75%.
Chemistry Class with Mr. Rival
In chemistry we practiced our unit conversions by converting a secret recipe from chemistry units into cooking measurements.
The lab was titled "Chocolate Chip Cookie Conversions"
This is the blurb I wrote at the top of the lab assignment:
"Many years ago, Phoebe Buffay’s family developed a secret chocolate chip cookie recipe, the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. It is a top secret recipe that only a few people in the world know. Phoebe, in an attempt to keep the recipe secret, converted the measurements into the chemistry unit of moles. She has since forgotten the recipe and needed the students in Mr. Rival’s Chemistry class to convert the recipe back to normal cooking measurements". The students used conversion factors to convert the chemistry unit of moles into mass and then from mass to cooking measurements and saved her great-grandmother’s, Nestle Toll House recipe!
Mrs. Stebich’s Math Class
Mrs. Stebich’s math class uses various online resources to help teach the topics in the curriculum. Edpuzzle, Quizizz, Quizlet, and Mathgames.com are some of her daily tools used to help differentiate the learning process. Three times a week the class attends a Zoom lesson on the math skill of the day. This week’s Zoom video lessons focused on key parts of an algebraic expression to start the topic. At the end of the week, we join Mrs. Corley and Mrs. DiRienzo for Fun Friday; some of our favorite virtual games are Pictionary and Kahoot!

How is your adjustment to remote learning going?
My adjustment has gone well; many of my classes were at RCSJ and the switch to online was pretty smooth. Now that I have finished my semester at RCSJ, I can focus 100% on my high school classes.
What is the hardest thing about this adjustment? The hardest part is not having a set schedule, and not being able to see people. I do like being able to complete things on my own timeline.
What is one aspect that you enjoy more than traditional school?
I do like being able to complete things on my own timeline.
What are you doing to keep busy when your school work is finished?
I have worked as a travel soccer referee for the last 2 years and I am hoping that JNYS will have some sort of season during the summer so I will be able to work.
What college(s) have you been accepted to, and where are you choosing to go? What will be your course of study?
I was accepted to William Patterson, Kean, Rowan and NJCU. I am going to attend NJCU to study National Security.
