Yoga
Hello yall
I've been a certified yogi for a year now. I received my certifications by the Satya program here at Prescott College.
This year I'm focused on becoming more authentic and in harmony with myself and the world around me.
In the class, we will be focusing on the Moon and how she is influencing us that week. This is intended to open the space for self-reflection and deepening our intention with the greater life forces. I am a Cancer (certified moonchild), so I am very basis with the ideas I will be presenting. I believe with an open mind and heart we can all find truth in what the Moon have to say. Thank you. =)
Love and Light
- Sean
P.S. I will be out of the country the Monday following spring break (25th). I will try to get someone to cover the class, but I can't promise. I will keep yall posted.
Praxis
Hello to all our fellow activists and allies, and so on!
Prescott College, Changemaker High School, and Mexicayotl Academy are working together to organize the Spring 2019 “PRAXIS Youth Organizing Conference” at the K-20 Changemaker High School Campus in Tucson, AZ on March 29-30. PRAXIS will be a two day conference where youth can collaborate together and share skill sets and knowledge gained from previous work. It is geared specifically towards youth who are engaged in community work and/or who are interested in getting involved. This is an opportunity for youth to build new relationships and bring new skills and connections back to their communities. The event will include workshops, youth and student led presentations, activities, food, entertainment, and an exciting keynote speaker, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors.
Because we have decided to host this conference free of charge for participating youth, we are working to raise a total of $6,000 to support this imaginative two day event. This will go towards food, supplies, T-shirts, and other miscellaneous expenses of hosting a conference. In effort to make this event as accessible as possible, we are also raising money to offer travel scholarships to youth who otherwise may not be able to attend. If you feel inspired and are able to donate, any amount will be met with gratitude. If you would like to learn more about the event, please feel free to contact us via email at praxis@k20tucson.org or browse the PRAXIS facebook page. If you would like to donate directly please click HERE, or check out our GO FUND ME.
Thank you for supporting the youth of today and future generations.
Sincerely,
The Students of Changemaker High School.
Scholarships
Through the generosity of our donors, Prescott College is pleased to offer several scholarships to assist students with their cost of attendance.
The Prescott College Financial Aid Office would like to encourage students to check out and apply for the 2019-2020 Endowed Scholarships. The deadline for Endowed Scholarship application is March 20, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
Please visit this web page for the 2019-2020 Endowed Scholarship Application and the selection criteria for the scholarships : https://www.prescott.edu/assets/documents/financial-aid/pdf-financial-aid-endowed-scholarship-criteria-app.pdf
Scholarship selection criteria will be based on a combination of academic performance, financial need, and/or intended program of study as designated by each donor. Financial need will be determined based on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information. Thus, we encourage all students to complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov as well.
Students with questions re: these scholarships should e-mail finaid@prescott.edu or call the financial aid office at (928) 350-1111.
HUB Updates
Hey there PC folx! For 2019, HUB is trying to change things up a bit, and we need your help!
Primarily, we are looking for some new employees. I’ll be leaving in May, and this service stays alive because of students! Please consider HUB if you:
-have work study
-are interested in social justice
-want to help folx have access to sustainable transportation
-generally like getting your hands dirty
-Are willing and excited to learn about how bikes work and how to fix them
-Are going to be at PC for a few more years.
If you're interested, get ahold of Locke Hassett or Tyler Gatton. Experience is much less important than passion, and I’d be really stoked to teach folx what I know.
Additionally, it would be great to have a bit more of a fair representation of our student body at the HUB. POC and WTF/NB (womxn, trans, femme, non-binary) folx, please don’t hesitate to get involved. It would be so rad to be able to hold WTF only workshops at the HUB, but that can’t really be done by me =].
Though this is a work study position, it’s also a fun way to get some volunteer hours in, whether that be for a class, the cycling team scholarship, resume building, or just for good vibes.
I know the HUB has been lacking over the last semester, but we have new tools, and big dreams. Group rides, bike in theatres, clinics...the list goes on! This is a super valuable resource for students and the entire community, especially those who don't have motor vehicles. Regardless of the good HUB does, it’s simply pretty fun to play with bikes. They are essentially big lego sets that you can ride. How rad is that? Be part of the fun! Hit me up, and lets play bikes!
Message from Jonathan Best
Dear Prescott College Students... In case you haven't met me, my name is Jonathan Best. I am the Music Gardener at Prescott College. My job is to bring more all-inclusive music making to the campus. My approach to music is based on my belief that musicality is innate to all of us. The qualities of being musical are much broader than what is taught in music school. Life skills and musical are actually one and the same because life and music are the same.
I am available for free, one on one music lessons on any instrument. I also do Interdisciplinary Independent Studies. We can also arrange group ISs. I addition to that, I will be facilitating a Drop-in Music Group which will bend to the needs of whoever shows up. I am currently looking for input on the best times for that. All of these offerings include the guided use of a recording studio with lots of musical instruments inside.
Please contact me at jonathan.best@prescott.edu and include your phone number and some good times to meet. You can also call me at 928-830-4887 but I still need that email.
I look forward to being musical with you.
La Plática means "the chat" in Spanish. Every Thursday we meet for an hour and only speak Spanish, no English. We sometimes sing Spanish songs. Nothing is required. You can just come and listen if you like and soak up Spanish that way. You don't have to know any Spanish at all. This group is co-hosted by Miriel Manning and myself. It takes place every Thursday from 4 to 5 pm at comMUSIKey in the Sam Hill building. Come in the side door by the comMUSIkey trailer.
