MARY-ANGELA'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou e Ngā Whānau
Today I have the pleasure of accompanying our ākonga involved in Kapa Haka to a catholic Schools’ cultural festival being held at Holy Cross School in Miramar. Once I’ve gathered all of the photos and video clips I will be able to share this with you. In the meantime, there are a few sneak previews included in this newsletter.
A huge thank you to our Matua Henare for preparing our tamariki for this event with help from several staff members.
ROAD PATROL SUPPORT NEEDED
Every morning and afternoon, teams of 4 of students and a teacher (+ 2 parent volunteers) ensure that the two road crossings sare safe.
This is a very busy and congested time of the day, and for the road patrollers to get to the crossing safely, they need to leave class early in the afternoon. It is very difficult for the teachers to accompany them as this means leaving class early. This results in senior students having to navigate the cumbersome signs through crowds of children. Sometimes there are accidents. Last week we had an accident from one of the signs.
We need your help - can you spare 25 minutes one afternoon a week, from 2.50pm until about 3.15pm? This would be a huge help to us as it would mean teachers do not need to rush out of class early. Please contact tom.leeper@sfds.school.nz if you can spare one afternoon.
Thank you to Jo and Fran who are already volunteering as parents.
CLASS PLACEMENTS 2023
We will soon be making decisions about class placement for 2023.
These placements will be based on a variety of factors that impact learning, such as current progress, social and emotional needs, and the interests and talents of our teaching team. We also work within limitations in terms of the number of teachers we are funded for by the Ministry of Education.
Your contribution to this process is welcomed. We invite you to share your perspective on aspects that can support your child/ren's learning. Please use this form to share your perspective: https://forms.gle/ApDg7C2GhyAfwfZs6
If you would rather speak face to face about this, please feel free to make a time to meet with Sarah or Mary-Angela. You are also welcome to email your thoughts:
Sarah Fountain, Deputy Principal (sarah.fountain@sfds.school.nz)
Mary-Angela Tombs, Principal (principal@sfds.school.nz)
Please do not request specific teachers as it is usually not possible to fulfil such requests.
This consultation will close Thursday 24 November, to allow us time to finalise class lists prior to the end of the school year. Thank you for your contribution.
Take care, kind regards and God bless
Mary-Angela Tombs
