Warmest Welcome To Fifth Grade

From your teacher, Ms. Lynch

A New Beginning

Life is filled with new beginnings: early mornings, first chapters, changing seasons, growing trends, shifting fashion, and emerging technology. Being a student means every fall brings you to a new grade, a new teacher, a new room, new expectations, new lessons, new growth, and maybe a few new friends.

So, without further ado, welcome to your newest new beginning!

One of the best parts of a new beginning (and one of my favorite parts about being a teacher) is being able to start fresh every single fall!

So take some time before our first day of school and ask yourself:

Who will you be this school year?

What are you trying to accomplish?

What do you want to learn?

What do you want to try?

What do you hope to improve?

What do you want to be known for?

How do you want others to view you?

What will you do for others?

How are you going to change the world? (That one may be a little tricky, but worth a try! No?)

What does this quote mean to you?

Our Fifth Grade Adventure!

You might not ordinarily think of school as an "adventure", but I dare you to think of the ways it could be.

Some of the fun things we will do this year will include:

* learning new technology: using Google apps, blogging, creating Glogs, exploring Prezi, making presentations, using iPads, shooting movies, recording Podcasts, typing stories, collaborating with other students and schools

*reading some AWESOME books and learning what it means to really enjoy a story

*gaining independence and showing leadership in the building: Student Council, Safety Patrol, News Crew, Peer Assistants, Newspaper, and more!

*developing into BRILLIANT mathematicians

*getting dirty and making a mess in Science: we explore the world of floating and sinking (think water everywhere!), land and water (think mud and dirt!), and body systems (think of intestines--eck!)

*becoming published writers

*discovering how our nation was born (almost right in our backyard!)

So, bring your enthusiasm and gear up for an awesome fifth grade year :)
