WLMS Counseling Corner
Keeping our community informed
Counselor trivia!!!
In middle school the counselor moves with the grade level. For example, Ms. Smith who is the 6th grade counselor this year will be the 7th grade counselor next year with the same students.
Mr. Austin will say good--bye to his 8th graders this spring and will join the 6th grade class this fall and stay with them through the three years here at WLMS.
For high school, your counselor is assigned to you by LAST name. If you're really curious, you can go to your high school webpage and see who will be your high school counselor in the future.
Academic Updates
Summer School Information
Parents may receive a letter about their child attending the Adams 12 District Summer School around the 2nd or 3rd week of May. The counseling department queries teachers about students academic progress. Students with two or more 1's in a core class at the end of the year will be offered an opportunity to attend summer school with the district.
Important dates for incoming 6th graders
This is a very causal event where the students can have ice cream, interact with other students, or take a final tour of the school. Parents you are welcome to join the fun and get any last minute questions answered by counselors.

Summer Opportunities
Every year we receive emails of student opportunities throughout the summer locally. Below are links to research to see if this may be a good fit for your child. Adams12 is NOT affiliated with these organizations. They do seem interesting enough to share with you.

7th grade high school readiness counselor lesson
The school counselor took over in math classes at the end of April introducing high school graduation requirements.
