March 13 - NWEA Math Test

We have seen some great book presentation over the last few days. The book presentations also have given us some ideas about what are good books. We will do this book project at least 2 more times before the year is over. Periodically, ask your child what book they are reading and if they will be ready for the next book project.

We begin NWEA testing on Thursday. Please help your child by making sure they have a good breakfast and a good night's sleep the night before. Testing is an opportunity for a child to demonstrate what they know and the data can be helpful as we seek to know how to best support and challenge your child. The tests are also a picture of a child on one day at a particular hour. There is more to your child than a test score. If you sense that your child is anxious about the tests, these thoughts might help keep the tests in perspective.

What's Happening in Math Right Now?

We are working on Unit 8 in math. This is a unit on area and perimeter. We are also working on terms that might come up in either the NWEA or MCA tests. The Everyday Math site above can give you a picture of what we are working on in Unit 8.

What to practice on-line

Last week we went into the computer lab to practice a version of the MCA test. In Put/Out Put problems and finding patterns were a significant part of the test. I've listed where in IXL your child can practice these types of problems. They aren't easy. Go ahead and work with your child and help them to see how you look for patterns. You don't have to be the expert. Your child may figure out the answer first.
