Introducing Warren Macdonald
A little about myself
G’day!
I’m an Aussie, born and raised in Sydney. I lived in the suburbs, so used to walk to school across a creek and through the bush. Grew up happy with surf trips, mountain hikes and skiing (yes, you can ski in Australia) for holidays and didn’t realise there was entire world out there to explore until the middle of university, when on a whim I signed up for a 9 month exchange in Luleå, Sweden. I went to the beach before the airport for a last surf, then 3 planes later stepped outside into air that was 70 degrees celsius colder! However, I loved every minute in the snow covered fairy land and have been travelling ever since J
I’ve also lived in Buenos Aires, Milan and Tel Aviv but for now am happily settled in London with my Finnish fiancé. Travel is still high on my list of priorities though and am looking for my next adventure – open to ideas! Last few have been climbing Kili, hiking to Everest base camp and cycling to Paris in 24 hours!
About my work
I’ve always been interested in technology, so after a degree in Business IT, I jumped straight into IT Consulting and have never looked back! Cut my teeth with the banks in Australia, then after moving to London earned my stripes with Accenture working in a variety of industries – highlights were defining an IT strategy at WilliamsF1 and process improvement in UK’s biggest printing plant.
I then spent several years at BCG where I ran a team focussed on IT capabilities (and helped develop IVI’s IT-CMF) and delivered IT change projects. Most fun was IT op model work at HSBC; shifting the 11,000 employees in ITO from country organisations to global functions.
Lastly I helped found the BCG Digital Venture office in London. DV helps clients understand their customers, develop new propositions, create products and spin off new ventures to commercialise and scale them. It was exciting work and I was able to help a steel producer define how they would ‘go digital’, a global energy firm launch a new product into the Philippines, UK & French banks plan and mobilise their customer journey transformations.
DV and Capco both have talented people, an entrepreneurial culture and a hunger for growth. With Capco’s FS focus, we have deeper connections with our clients and reach the same executive stakeholders. Capco boast end-to-end capabilities enabling us to bring deep understanding of our clients and translate that into meaningful transformation.
We have the ingredients for success and looking across the 6 Digital proposals we currently have out and the promising conversations with 6 other clients in the diary, I am excited about our future!
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER TO THIS FAMILY
Sitting in my first set of promotion discussions last week, it was great to see that here at Capco we promote on individual merit and we do not need to compete with our peers. Collaboration has been a foundation on which I’ve built my consulting career and my door is metaphorically always open! I’m happy to share my experiences and hear about yours. If you have any questions about selling or delivering Digital, or Strategy and IT for that matter, I’m definitely up for a conversation.
I have got my hands on our family tree so hopefully I can meet as many Galileans as possible this family day!
