How Do We Handle "March Madness?"
No, I'm not talking about the basketball tournament. Another name for it may be "Spring Fever." It is the time of year when big and little people say and do things that might be a bit out of character. It is when days are longer, schedules are packed, and summer is too far away. How can we model for our children how to respond well in this time of year? 1. Create some margin. There are so many festivals, ballgames, and end of year celebrations on our schedules. This is during a time when our children need to do their best on major statewide and districtwide tests. As parents, we need to make sure there is some down-time for our kids. Just because we can fit it into our schedule does not mean we need to put it on the calendar. We all need some time to recuperate and recover. Is rest as much of a value as activity for us? 2. When you work, work hard and when you play, play hard...and don't get the two mixed up. There are so many fun things to do in the spring. We want our families to enjoy time together. We want to help our children know when to prioritize fun and when to prioritize work. We can show them how to appropriately shift mindsets in the right way and at the right time. 3. Keep an eye on the calendar. It is so easy to allow things to slip up on us and not be prepared for them. Let's make sure everyone in our family knows what is ahead so we can help each other be ready. Effective planning is essential so our children can be successful in and out of school. We will do all we can to give you dates in advance for school activities. 4. Find out the facts. When patience is thin and stress is high, it is all too easy to make assumptions and jump to conclusions. A better option is to pause and give the benefit of the doubt. Ask for more information and listen well before responding. We want to respond thoughtfully rather than react irrationally. We hope you will consider how to walk with your child through "The Madness" of the end of the school year. We are nowhere near done yet and we need everyone at their best. Let's model for our kids how to end well.
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness

Any student dressing up will receive a small prize at the end of the week.
Signing Children Out During Lunch--Parents, if possible, please consider signing your child out either before or after lunch when you need to take them. At lunchtime, our teachers are eating lunch and supervising their children and it is difficult be in the cafeteria and to walk a child back to class to get their things and then get them to the office. Dismissing children before or after lunch is much easier on everyone.
March Teacher Appreciation--Thank you for providing a pizza lunch for our staff on Friday. We feel "lucky" to have such supportive parents.
Student Dress Code--Please help us by checking the appropriateness of your child's clothes. As temperatures turn warmer, our children will be wearing more shorts and short-sleeve shirts. Many of them have had growth spurts since last spring so last year's clothes may not meet our dress code as they did last spring. Please check this in advance. You can find our Dress Code on p. 7 in our Family Handbook in the link below.
