The Sunday Message for the Week of March 13, 2017
Good evening to all parents and staff. This is Kevin Biles, Principal of Pleasant Union Elementary with The Sunday Message for the week of March 13, 2017.
This week we will be completing the transition to the expanded communication system that incorporates parent options on email and text. I will not be using the former group email service that has been used in the past. IF you do not get the Sunday Message by the method you "opted in" to please alert our office staff for directions on setting up your account. This can also be done using the information and links in the February 27th, Issue 4 Sunday Message.
Yearbooks continue to be for sale. Go to the PTA Yearbook Facebook page to find out more.
Chess Club Starts This Week
Chess Club begins this week. The Club will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 4-5 pm. The Club will meet in the new Media Center Learning Area. Thanks to parent Jessie Tenenbaum for facilitating this. Details about the club are listed in the written transcript of the Sunday Message.
Meetings: 3rd Wednesday of each month 4-5pm, location tba
First meeting: Wednesday, March 15th, 2017
Primary goal: Provide an opportunity for kids to play chess with other kids
- Teach kids chess rules, skills, and strategies
- Familiarize kids and their parents with chess resources, both local (clubs, lessons, tournaments) and online (www.chesskid.com).
We will use a combination of free play between participating students, informal pointers based on observation, and formal lessons in strategy and tactics based on workbooks, web resources, and parental supervisors’ knowledge.
To sign up your child, contact Jessie Tenenbaum (email@example.com) with your child’s name, homeroom teacher, grade, and track.

Need Your Help
We still need additional parent volunteers for tracks 2 and 4 individual and class spring pictures tomorrow, March 13. Please text Susan Gowland at 919-610-6134 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help us out. Thanks in advance for your help.
The PTA will provide a Staff Appreciation luncheon on Friday, March 24th. It will be a potato bar with all the fixings. Please go to the SignUp Genius to help with one of the needed items. PTA reps. will be out front of the school on Friday, March 24th during carpool to collect your items. PTA and PUE Staff appreciate your contributions immensely.
Please remind your child to keep their Pokeman/other trading cards (baseball, football, etc.) and personal "sports balls" at home. We have had to intervene in the classroom, cafeteria, and After School Program for inappropriate use and student conflict over their use. We have all the "sports balls" we need for students to play games on the playgrounds. Personal sports balls have caused safety problems on the bus and student challenges on the playground. As a result, students are to enjoy both items at home versus at school.
