Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of March 5th
Highlights from last week....
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. We also introduced "Flippy Dolphin", which is when you come to a tricky word, you can flip the vowel sound. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that we have been sending home weekly with your child. Also, please practice the sight words that went home. We will be sending home updated lists as they master the ones they are currently on. The more sight words they know, the better readers they will become!
In Writer's Workshop, we started our unit on realistic fiction. This is a tricky concept for our little learners, so we may be on this for a while!
In Math, we continued our unit on number bonds. I will attach a video to help you understand the math concept. We LOVE number bonds!!!
This week was Dr. Seuss' Birthday and we were rhyming machines!
A peek at our learning this week....
In Reader's Workshop, we will continue to focus on looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. In phonics, we will focus on building words. We will be playing many word play games to help learn these skills. We will also work on rhyming words. Many of our friends are still having trouble with this, please rhyme whenever you can with your child so they can practice hearing and saying rhyming words.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds. This is a concept that we use to break numbers apart and put them together.
In Science, we will be starting our unit on plants.
More information
Many parents are asking what the class needs for supplies. We could use some Clorox Wipes. Thank you in advance.
FLASHCARDS
Please practice letters and sounds with your child nightly! Thank you!
A note from Miss Driscoll
This week we will begin subtraction. This can be a challenging concept for students, so please practice counting backwards and review your child’s math papers with them. This will help reinforce the work done at school. We will also begin reading books written by Eric Carle! I’m sure the kids will love this unit of study.
Please practice sight words with and without the picture cues, I have noticed some students having trouble identifying sight words in a book without the picture cue. I will send home another copy of them without the picture cues this week.
Have a fabulous week! Thank you for all that you do!
A note from Mrs. Maillet

A note from Mrs. Marcoux
We will be working on rhyming by using the Dr. Suess books. If you would like to send in a favorite Suess book for the children to share in class, please do so. I will make sure it gets back to you the same day.
Did the children tell you about our special guests on Friday? We were lucky enough to have the Fire Chief and a firefighter come in and read to our class. They gave a great demonstration of the gear they use, what a firefighter looks and sounds like in a fire and how to keep safe. Your children may ask you about home smoke detectors.
Enjoy your week and as always thank you for your support!

In March we have PTO having Toy BINGO coming soon. This a great night. PTO is the first Monday of the month. Come see what they have planned.
Students will be getting their 2nd progress report card later in March. I am so excited of the progress that the students have gained. Please continue to support them with sight word flash cards, writing letters and numbers and always reading.
A few things for my wish list: During vacation I was thinking of things that we will be doing later this school year. I will be looking for some planting supplies: soil, containers, seeds these will be used in the month of March beginning of April. Each child will need 1 white standard size pillow case. I am letting you know now so if you are out shopping you could find it on sale. This project is done later so by May it would be nice to have them.
Thank you for all your support.
