Meeting ID: 660 137 4901

Starting Monday, November 2, CCS will roll out an added option for families to pick up food at its 44 Fuel Up! meal sites. Families will be able to pick up freshly prepared meals Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, families will also be able to pick up the next day’s breakfast. Also, new take-home meals will be available to support students on the weekends and holidays.

The CCS Food Services team will continue to provide families with the option of picking up a five-day family meal pack on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and in the evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

In compliance with federal guidelines, families who choose to pick up a five-day meal pack on Wednesdays will not be eligible to pick up a daily meal over the next five (5) calendar days. For more information and to download a map with all 44 Fuel up Meal Sites, log onto ccsoh.us/reopening.

There are dedicated staff and outside support to help answer calls to the IT Help Desk at

614-365-8425 at these times:

  • Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Families can also email the Help Desk at ccshelpdesk@columbus.k12.oh.us

Virtual Family Engagement Sessions

CCS will also continue hosting the twice-weekly Virtual Family Engagement Sessions on Zoom. Dr. Dixon will be joining these sessions on a regular basis to engage with families, students, staff, and community stakeholders. Sign up for these Virtual Family Engagement Sessions - hosted every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. by our Engagement team - at www.ccsoh.us/rsvp.

Learning Extension Centers

Learning Extension Centers are a true community partnership effort that addresses the educational and social-emotional needs of CCS students and families during this time of virtual learning. These centers offer internet access for students to interface with their teachers and virtual assignments while also providing safe, educationally-conducive environments for students who may not have the resources at home. There are 145 Learning Extension Centers across the city - and we expect the list to grow - with a wider range of services being provided at different hours throughout the day. To make it easy to find the LEC closest to you, there is an interactive map. Information about LEC’s and the locator map can be found at: www.ccsoh.us/LearningExtensionCenters

The LEC’s working with Columbus City Schools do not charge fees to families for these services. Day Care providers that charge for services are different than a LEC.

When a student is absent:

  • Avalon parents need to e-mail a note to Ms. Mackey at attendance.avalon@columbus.k12.oh.us with a copy to Mrs. Moorman amoorman@columbus.k12.oh.us on the day of the absence - preferably in the morning
  • Notes from parents may be received up to nine times
  • After nine e-mails/notes from a parent to say that their student is going to be absent, a doctor's note will be required
  • In the case of a family emergency, an e-mail from a parent needs to be sent directly to the Principal, Mrs. Taylor

If your child has five absences in which there has been no note received, they will be considered unexcused and there will be a conference scheduled with Jillian Baker, the Social Worker.

Parent Teacher Conferences

You should have received a flyer via e-mail to sign up for a time slot to meet with your child's teacher virtually from 4 pm - 7:30 pm on November 2 & November 12. Please let our office know if you never received it.

"In third grade we learned about landscape, and drawing with perspective. Penelope used perspective in her drawing to create a desert landscape with sand, cacti, and a beautiful sky! Great job Penelope!"

Positive Behaviors Interventions & Supports

As Avalon teachers, staff, and members of the PBIS Team seek to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students during this time of distance learning, the PBIS Team is in the process of implementing the following interventions and supports:

  • Tier I: Caught Being Good on Zoom - Students are awarded a Caught Being Good ticket that will give them a virtual reward. Eagle, Effort, and Good Attendance Awards are also in effect and will be e-mailed. We are looking into virtual field trips for each class.
  • Tier II: Enrichment Clubs are forming. Please complete the attached survey to let us know which groups your student is interested in. Another group is being formed for those students that need extra support in self-management skills. Cloverbuds/4H and Scouting is also available - please see more information within this newsletter.
  • Tier III: One-on-one Zooms are being scheduled with students that need individualized support in either academics, attendance, or behavior.
