Growth Mindset
What is a growth mindset? People with a growth mindset believe that abilities and intelligence can be developed through persistence and hard work. When students, teachers and administrators have a growth mindset, they focus on improvement, are resilient when facing setbacks, and are motivated to learn. People with a fixed mindset believe that their intelligence and abilities are fixed and are not within their control.
Most people are held back not by their innate ability, but by their mindset. They think intelligence is fixed, but it isn’t. Your brain is like a muscle. The more you use it and struggle, the more it grows. New research shows we can take control of our ability to learn. We can all become better learners. We just need to build our brains in the right way.
One of Connect's key beliefs is to have a growth mindset and that belief is interwoven in everything we do and instilled in all of our mentor:student conversations.
Having a growth mindset is the key to success in Connect. Believing that we can truly learn anything if we find the right way to learn it and do not give up. Understanding that when we don't master something at first, it doesn't mean that we never will. It just means that we are not there...yet. Having the ability to pick ourselves up and even start over sometimes is an invaluable skill that each and every one of us has to spend time developing if we want to be successful.
