Message from Mr. McDermott

Hi Wildcat Families,

Good afternoon parents, progress reports for quarter 2 will be posted in the myStudent portal on Friday 11/12. Again, with Thanksgiving break and the end of semester 1, this is a very short quarter. Please make sure you are monitoring your student's progress and reaching out for assistance.

Senior Activities and Prom

This year's prom will be held Saturday, April 9th 2022 aboard the Starship Yacht. The yacht will depart from Channelside Bay Plaza, 603 Channelside Dr., Tampa, FL. Boarding will begin at 8:30PM and we will return to the dock at 11:30PM. Plan on ticket sales to begin the first week of March, more information will come in the next few issues of this newsletter. We will also be releasing a list with dates of senior activities prior to Thanksgiving Break.

Food deliveries to campus are not allowed

Parents, students are not allowed to order food deliveries such as Door Dash, Grub Hub, and Uber Eats to be delivered to campus. This is a safety concern as all visitors to campus must be security screened. Also, our staff has other responsibilities that limit the availability to check on food deliveries. If students have food delivered, it will be confiscated and given to them at the end of the school day.

New Bell Times for Second Semester

The District School Board approved new start times for all schools to help ensure transportation is available to get all students to school on time. Beginning 2nd semester, first period will begin at 7:10AM and school will end at 1:34PM.

Florida Civic Literacy Examination

The state has required a new test called the Florida Civic Literacy Examination (FCLE). This test is required of students (typically seniors) enrolled in certain U.S. Government courses and will be required of college students as well. Beginning with students initially entering a Florida College System institution or state university in the 2021-2022 school year and thereafter, each student must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by achieving a passing score on an assessment and by successfully completing a civic literacy course. The Florida Civic Literacy Examination (FCLE) is the assessment used to meet this requirement. If a student passes this assessment while in high school, they are exempt from the postsecondary exam requirement.

In conclusion, those students taking U.S. Government this semester will be taking this exam on December 10th. It is an 80 minute test, but the students may take up to half the school day.
