Why is attendance important in helping every student succeed?
One of the most important things your child can do to reach the goal of success is also one of the most basic: attend school every day on time! Even though we are not in the classrooms, attendance and engagement in your learning is more important than ever. By attending distance learning class regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with daily lessons and assignments. Research has shown that your child's regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing his/her academic success.
Some of the greatest benefits for attending school regularly are:
· Achievement: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who do not.
· Opportunity: For older students, being in school every day gives them a chance to learn more about college and scholarship opportunities and to learn the important information to build a successful academic record.
· Exposure to the English language: Regular school attendance can also help students who are learning English by giving them the opportunity to master the skills and information they need more quickly and accurately.
· Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.
Even though the circumstances are extenuating, we want our Colts to keep REACHing for their best during these difficult times. We want our students to be accountable and engaged throughout the next few months. Our teachers are working extremely hard to create online learning platforms and so are our students. We're proud of you all for your work over the past few weeks. We will be tracking students who are not only connecting with teachers but actively participating in activities. We will be tracking engagement from our students from April 27th-May 8th. If you've asked for a paper packet, you count too. We will put those students in a drawing for an iPad. We will draw a 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade winner! So encourage your child to attend, engage and participate in the upcoming weeks.
In this together!
Go Colts!
Let's see your at-home classroom.
Also, look forward to a PBIS challenge set up by our PBIS team for those that consistently connect with their teachers from now until June. Watch for more information!
Were you planning on running track?
As the weather begins to warm and there are few and far between sporting events to watch on TV, we will encourage you to get outside and enjoy nature. If you were planning on running track at Carleton, we have developed a website with specific workouts and track and field techniques to understand and practice. This could be a great springboard for high school athletics, or maybe just to stay in shape for when sports resume at the middle school level. Check out some of the videos and event specific activities at the page listed below.
