Red Hill Lutheran 2020-2021
October Issue
Congratulations RHLS!
Dr. Marquardt's Letter
I enjoy song lyrics, maybe some of you do too. There is a song titled ‘Some Of It’ that contains the following lyrics…
…Money is not rich, everybody sins, and nobody wins in a fight…
…Some of it you learn the hard way, some of it you read on a page, some of it comes from heartbreak, most of it comes with age; and none of it ever comes easy. A bunch of it you maybe cannot use. I know I do not probably know what I think I do, but there is something to some of it…
I find these lyrics interesting in the context of education as well as our Christian faith. Often times, as a student, I wondered ‘why do I need to learn this?’ Certain things just never seemed relevant to my life, but I was still required to learn and study them regardless of what I thought. Looking back, I realize that God has a purpose for everything we experience in life (things we study in school, lessons we learn from social interactions, etc.). “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). In contrast to the songwriters’ lyrics, ‘All Of It’ is for His purpose and our benefit as a follower of Christ Jesus, even when it does not seem that way to us in the moment. Thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for being in charge of ‘All Of It’ all of the time!
This is an exciting time of the school year. Everyone has settled into a nice routine again. Students begin to cover new challenging materials in the classroom, learning new concepts and skills. In the primary grades, students are learning to decode words, read, write and compile sentences and even paragraphs of their own thoughts. Older students are challenged to think in deep and critical ways about topics, and begin to connect previous learning to their emerging thoughts and the larger world around them.
As we move towards our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences at the end of the month of October, I want to thank you for your ongoing prayerful support and partnership with us here at Red Hill Lutheran School. We have an amazing group of teachers and staff members who daily pray for and work hard with your child(ren) to help them learn and be all that they can be with the many gifts God has blessed each of them with. It is because of your partnership that we were recently selected by U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos as a 2020 Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School (see attached letter from Secretary Betsy DeVos, and website profile photo including some of our amazing young students).
God’s richest blessings on your family.

New RHLS Family Testimonials (Fall, 2020)
Honestly, not a day goes by that we do not say how happy we are with our choice. We appreciate your patience with us as we made the decision to come to RHLS and we are so happy to be there. Our children are thriving, learning, and they are happy and loved. Everyone we have met…the teachers, the admin, and the parents have been so kind and welcoming. Your teachers really go above and beyond to make the kids feel special and they are loving it. We are very impressed with the school from the drop off/pick up procedures to teacher interaction and everything in between. Thank you for all that you do!

We are loving RHLS! Our children are so happy to go to school in person, and they love the wonderful opportunities they have beyond the typical curriculum like music, drama, and Chapel. Thank you so much for your hospitality and help in the admissions process, and we look forward to the rest of this year and years to come!
In Christ,
<New RHLS parents>

The girls absolutely love Red Hill and say they are so happy we made the switch. Our family is so grateful for the loving, nurturing environment Red Hill provides. You are now stuck with us for years to come. 😉
Sincerely,
<New RHLS parents>

We are really enjoying RHLS! The kids seem to be learning a lot and enjoying being back in school after so much time at home. I have already prepped our youngest daughter that she will be going next year and she is very excited as well! Our son has really developed; he really wants to do well and even does extra homework, which is something I have never seen!
Thank you for everything!

Also, upload all your pictures to share with your class. This is a great way to collect pictures for the yearbook! Parents Guide to MAP Growth Testing
During the next two weeks (10/5-10/16) your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet here at school. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine students instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Science. MAP stands for Measuring Academic Progress.
MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades K-8 will take the tests during each Trimester. Grades K-2 take the tests in Math and Reading, while grades 3-8 take the tests in Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Science. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about the MAP Growth test, visit: NWEA.org/Parent-Toolkit, and read the attached Parents Guide to MAP Growth.pdfWhat's Going On?
Attendance: Please submit all absences through RHLS app Absence Form, this informs both the office and teacher.
Free Dress Fridays:
Every Friday, K-8 students, are allowed to pay $2 and wear free dress. All money raised will go to the ASB for student activities and service projects. Free dress Monday is only if you have a free dress pass.
Spirit Shirt Fridays:
Students may wear their spirit shirt with uniform bottoms every Friday.

Please always follow directions during morning drop-off and afternoon pick up from RHLS. Make sure you always exit the RHLS driveway by turning right (north) at both times. Thanks to everyone for your help to keep everyone safe.
To go along with our "God of Wonders" theme, we are excited to start this new school wide project soon!
Parents in Prayer
Parents in Prayer: Parents and church members are invited to join our "Parents in Prayer" group. This group meets every Friday, from 8:30-9:30 am in Peter's Parish.
The purpose of the group is to pray for our school, teachers, administrators, staff and students on a weekly basis. You may also submit prayer requests on the RHLS APP.

October Teaching Series "Amazed"
OCT 04: IT’S AMAZING! GOD TAKES CARE OF ME.
OCT 11: IT’S AMAZING! GOD KNOWS WHAT’S BEST FOR ME.
OCT 18: IT’S AMAZING! GOD SPEAKS TO ME.
OCT 25: REFORMATION SUNDAY!
(GOD DOES AMAZING THINGS!)
OVERVIEW:
On October 4th we will begin a new teaching series, “Amazed.” We are going through the major events in the life of the prophet Elijah, all of which are nothing short of amazing! Elijah’s ministry took place during turbulent times for God’s people – so much so that Elijah felt utterly alone at times. Sometimes he was literally alone. But God’s Presence and power with Elijah throughout those times was undeniable.
We invite all kids to join us for K.I.D.S. Ministry on Zoom – or in person!
