Polar Bears are Endangered!!!

Their Habitat is shrinking. TJM

Description of the Polar Bear

Polar Bears are not your average bears. Instead of having black or brown colored fur, they have snow white fur. Polar bears can way up to 2,000 lbs. and they live in the Artic region.

Adaption of the Polar Bear

Polar Bears have long, stiff hair between the pads of the bear's feet. The light color of the Polar Bear's fur provides a natural "coat" that protects the bear from the extreme cold. The fur also has a camouflage-like affect against the snow and ice. Polar Bears have to be strong swimmers if they live in the Artic. They also have a thick layer of fat (or blubber) under their skin.

Food chain and habitat of a Polar Bear

Polar Bears are carnivores at the top of the food chain, so they don't need to worry about being hunted. Their primary prey is the Arctic Seal. By hunting seal, Polar Bears prevent seal overpopulation. Although they only eat the fatty parts of the seal, they leave the rest for other carnivores.

Reasons for Endangerment

The Polar Bear is going extinct for one primary reason, humans. Humans drive so many cars at one time that enough carbon dioxide (Co2) is produced to melt the snow and ice. This means that the arctic is actually shrinking at a faster rate!

Call to Action

Reduce the number of miles you drive. Its easier than you might think. Instead of driving to the store, bike to the store with a basket. Walk or bike to you work 3 out of 5 days a week. In conclusion, its all the little things that can save an animals life.
