Meet Our Student Council President
Alexandrya, a GMS 7th grader, was elected President of the GMS Student Council. Student Council, sponsored by Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Kirton is an organization that makes a connection between the student body and the administration. They take ideas and see if the ideas are good for our school, then meet with the Principal and help make the best decisions for students. In order to get to know our new President better, we had students from around the campus ask our Student Council President some questions.
Are you going to be able to allow cell phones at lunch?
Ansely, GMS 7th grader, asked our new president this question. Alexandrya answered, "I will try my best to get the school to allow cell phones at lunch. Unfortunately the school does not allow cell phones to be used on campus except during lessons. I will definitely try my best to get the school to allow the use of cell phones at lunch because it does not distract you from learning."
What are you planning to do as President?
After meeting the President, Adrian (6th grader) asked our president the question that had been on many students' minds. What was Alexandrya going to do now that she was President? "I hope to make school a better environment for learning by helping make it fun!" She replied, "I will also be planning more activities and using your input to make decisions for our school in the future."
Can you change the dress code?
Annika, 7th grader, was hoping that dress code could be changed. Alex said, "The school controls dress code and I can't change it. Students should follow the school dress code and look their best."
What's coming up this school year?
Student Council planned the Costume Contest held on October 29th. For the first time, students were allowed to dress up in costumes during the school day at Glenridge. Student Council gave awards during lunch to the top costumes. Alexandrya also reports
"We are also planning the Thanksgiving food drive where our school will collect different canned foods for our community members who are in need." There is still a week left in the Food Drive and we are half way to our goal. Bring in cans and non-perishable foods. Publix gift cards are also welcomed. Collections will happen during Period 1.
We can't wait for the next cool ideas that come our way for the school year!
