Principal’s Message
Cavett Families,
It has been a busy start to the school year, and is not slowing down anytime soon. September brings parent/teacher conferences, the 21st CCLC, and testing.
If you have not scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher, please do so quickly. Remember that during conference days, students will be released early, and all students must be picked up at the early dismissal times. We will not have supervision or 21st CCLC during those days. Students are not allowed to wait here for you if you are coming in for a conference shortly after dismissal.
Also, we will be visiting classes to go over the district’s new Code of Conduct. Please visit the link and go over it with your child as consequences for incidents have changed from years past.
We had a practice lock-down drill. The students and staff did a great job. All teachers are to ensure that doors are locked, windows are covered, and all students are hiding and as quiet as possible. We will conduct another in 2nd semester. We have monthly fire drill practices and will have a practice bus evacuation this month.
Lastly, during the last week of the month, we will be having quarterly benchmark assessments. This will be for students in grades 2-5 and will assess their learning through 1st quarter. Please make sure your students are on time every day and get good sleep the night before.
Warmest Regards,
Carol Leeson

Cavett Eagle Student of the Month
Last month’s focus was Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways. We hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together! Respect is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Character Strong for October is Empathy.
This month’s focus is Empathy. One way to think about Empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships. Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.
Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing Empathy. Here are 2 “PurposeFull Pursuits” you can complete together!
1. Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Schedule a family movie night so that you can specifically watch for feelings and emotions. Let everyone know that you’d like them to point out how the characters in the show are feeling and that you will pause periodically to discuss Empathy. As emotions are identified, invite one another to Empathize by sharing about a time they felt that way or imagining how they might be feeling in that moment.
2. Review the definition of Empathy as a family! Remember that Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Find a time to sit in a circle together and celebrate all the ways you have seen each other practice Empathy. Take turns sharing responses to the following prompts or make up your own! Remember to practice Empathy as you listen to each other. ● What is 1 way a family member has shown you Empathy lately? ● Share about a time when you felt like someone really listened to you.
Cell Phones
We have seen a lot of usage of cell phones and air pods during the school day. Please remind your student that if they bring their phone, air pods, smart watches etc. they need to keep it in their pocket or backpack, and we are not responsible for items lost or stolen. Students are not allowed to use electronics during class, passing period, etc. Students seen using electronics without permission will have items confiscated. You may view the TUSD Policy here.
Parent Dismissal
We are using the FetchKids Dismissal application. We will not release students before 2:30. School is out at 2:40. We will not walk your students across the street. You must park and can wait in the front of the school for your student to arrive. Please be mindful of the car line. It does not matter how old you are, no one it when someone cuts in front of the line. The dismissal line goes fast once we get started. Thank you for your patience.
