The Student Engagement and Counseling Services Department has compiled a list of scholarship opportunities that range from elementary to high school. Below are the FEBRUARY scholarship listings.
Local scholarships are highlighted in blue.
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT
MADELYN OPAL MCDOWELL BUTLER SERVANT LEADER SCHOLARSHIP
Fort Worth ISD seniors are encouraged to apply to become a recipient of the MADELYN OPAL MCDOWELL BUTLER SERVANT LEADER SCHOLARSHIP.
Recipients of this $1000 scholarship must demonstrate the following:
- Be an African-American male high school senior attending school in Tarrant County or Grand Prairie, Texas
- Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Involvement in extracurricular activities
- Community Service
- Demonstrated Leadership
- An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on 4.0 scale) submitted by your high school counselor.
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 14
MEL BROWN MCGINNIS LITERACY ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients of this $1000 scholarship must/submit:
- Be an African-American high school senior who aspires to pursue a college degree in literary arts, performing arts, or visual arts.
- Possess a Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate interest in Literary, Performing or Visual Arts
- Demonstrate Involvement in community/ extracurricular activities
- An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on 4.0 scale) submitted by your high school counselor.

HONORABLE ELZIE ODOM LEADERSHIP OF TOMORROW SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients of this $3000 scholarship must/submit:
- Be an African-American male senior attending school in Tarrant County or Grand Prairie.
- Possess a Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate Involvement in community/ extracurricular activities
- Demonstrate leadership
- An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on 4.0 scale) submitted by your high school counselor.

Recipients of this $1000 scholarship must/submit:
- Be a graduating female high school senior who is a pregnant teen or teen mother
- Possess a financial need.
- An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on 4.0 scale) emailed by your high school counselor

EDDLEMAN-MCFARLAND SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Recipients of this scholarship must/submit:
- Be a high school Senior residing in Tarrant or Parker County
- Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college, university, or trade school in the State of Texas
- Be a United States Citizen.
- Demonstrate financial need
- Possess good character
- Demonstrate seriousness of purpose, willingness to work and the ability to complete the proposed course of study or training are also evaluated

JUNTOS SE PUEDE SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients of this full tuition scholarship must be/submit:
Must be a resident of the city of Fort Worth, Texas
- Provide official/unofficial high school transcript
- Provide page (1) of parent or guardian's 2021 or 2022 tax return
- Must be a high school graduate by June 2023
- Must complete the essay portion of the application
- Must complete and sign the scholarship application
- Letters of recommendation
- (OPTIONAL) Provide proof of community/volunteer hours or work. If you choose to list community/volunteer hours, please be prepared to submit proof of hours.

FWISD STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & SCHOOL COMPLETION AND TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients of this full tuition scholarship, valued at $240,000 over 4-years must be/submit:
Be a graduating FWISD seniors who have been accepted to TCU
Provide an official high school transcript and resume
Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from non-relatives
Compose an essay of 250 words that answers the following question: “Why should you be selected for this scholarship?

FORT WORTH ISD CELEBRATES SCHOOL COUNSELORS

The Fort Worth ISD is joining the country in observing National School Counseling Week.
Celebrated Feb. 6-10, 2023, the observance recognizes the work of U.S. school counselors and the impact they make in helping students achieve academic success and plan for their future. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the National School Counseling Week 2023 theme is: "School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big."
FWISD counselors will participate in ASCA’s National School Counseling Week Photo Challenge inspired by the 2023 theme.
Schools across FWISD are celebrating their campus counselors next week with social media posts and appreciation demonstrations.
The District is grateful for its school counselors who inspire students and provide them with social-emotional support to thrive.
