Dear Middlebrook Families,
The process of class placement for the upcoming school year is beginning for classroom teachers and specialists. Please know that grade level teams and support staff take the placement process very seriously and class communities are built thoughtfully. Teams work diligently and consider many factors when deciding upon student placement. Some of the factors considered are:
Balancing classrooms academically, behaviorally and by gender
Social partnerships; some enhance learning while others may distract from the learning process
Understanding each child’s unique needs and our ability to deliver differentiated instruction and support
These decisions are not made in isolation and are always made in the best interest of the student. You are asked to refrain from requesting a specific teacher. If there is a particular situation or learning need regarding placement that you need to share I ask that you inform me in writing by sending an email to dponte@trumbullps.org by May 1, 2022. Remember, this is not to request a particular teacher or student placement with others due to friendships, teachers already take the latter into consideration.
Please note that changes happen over the summer. Sometimes there are students that join or leave Middlebrook. There can also be teacher changes that are unavoidable, therefore in alignment with all the elementary schools in Trumbull we wait until approximately one week before school starts to disseminate class placement lists. Thank you for your understanding.
A message from our 5th grade teachers
The Hillcrest Middle School and Madison Middle School Counselors were here to visit with us and answered questions that our excited students had about next year. Plus, chorus rehearsals have begun in preparation for the 5th grade Spring Concert which is scheduled for Thursday, May 19th ! In addition, as we are beginning to plan for end-of-year field trips, please be on the look out for requests for chaperones. If you are interested, please be sure to fill out a TPS volunteer form now if you have not already done so.
~5th grade teachers

Warmly,
~Debbie Ponte

MIDDLEBROOK SCHOOL AUTHOR VISITS
Middlebrook School is excited to welcome authors Dan Gutman and Alyssa Satin Capucilli!
Kindergarten and Grade 1
Alyssa Satin Capucilli, in person Thursday April 14th
Author of the Biscuit series, Katy Duck Series and more!
Grades 2-5
Dan Gutman, virtually Tuesday April 12th
Author of the My Weird School series, Baseball Card Adventures series and more!
April is MATH AWARENESS MONTH, and our math specialists have BIG plans for Middlebrook to celebrate math around us!
Students can look forward to weekly math challenges at each grade level, with all correct answers being entered into our Friday Raffle Drawings. They will definitely need their math thinking caps to solve the problems! We will also have MATH spirit days at the end of each week.
Here’s the schedule:
Friday, April 1st - CRAZY MISMATCH Pattern Day
Friday, April 8th - Dress to the Nines! Dress to impress with fancy clothes!
Thursday, April 14th - Math is “Dreamy” - Wear your PJ’s
Friday, April 29th - Wear a Jersey or number
How can YOU celebrate math at home on a regular basis??? Anytime we give our children positive experiences with math, we are helping them tremendously! Here are a few counting suggestions from NWEA:
Count orally forwards and backwards by ones, twos, fives, or tens (or 20s, 50s, 100s, halves, tenths, thirds, etc.)
Complete connect-the-dot pictures
Count and pair objects found around the house and determine whether there’s an odd or even number of items
Review math facts at home, in the car, waiting in line, or during other downtime
Provide your child with verbal math problems. “Take the number five; add six; multiply by three; subtract three; divide by five. What’s your answer?” Speak slowly at first until your child gets better at solving these mental problems
MORE FUN MATH IDEAS:
Mrs. Collins class studying Community Helpers
Officer Sota, visited Mrs. Collin's class and answered some of the kids questions on community helpers. The class was very excited!
