Personnel Passport
August 28th-September 1st
Message from Mission Control
* We started our normal visitor procedures this week. So, parents must stop in the office to sign in when they walk their students to class. Please remind your students that they need to go to the gym or the cafeteria if getting here before 7:25. We had quite a few kids just "hanging out" in the halls this morning waiting on that bell. They need to go to the designated spots if they're arriving early.
* We started our first life principle this week: self discipline. These WILL replace our vocabulary words that we have done in the past. We are using the same methods, where the students AND staff can write examples of the life principle OR a way it has been shown. Teachers may need to start this activity, so the students can follow suit. For the younger ones, it can be a short discussion in the hall, and the teacher can make a note on the chart paper.
* Please make sure to let Bobby and I know when your class is ready to recite their class creed! Shout out to Amarisa's class for showing off last week! It's so great to see the kiddos so excited and eager to start off the year!
Campus News
* Make sure to sign up for PTA! We want to have 100% participation!!
* ELAR teachers, I emailed you about the first Planapalooza that's coming up at the district level. It will be focused on the new grammar/mechanics/conventions supplement in the curriculum. Please let me know if you're planning to attend! I've already heard from Kendra, Kim Rollins, and Kelly Clower! Shout out to those ladies, and I'm hoping even more of you can make it!! Make sure to sign up on Eduphoria.
* Don't forget:
- Compliance Bundle-( due Sept. 15th)- Turn in your certificates to me.
- Science Certificates to be turned in to me (all teachers who teach science)
- PD forms
- Grading Handbook signature pages
* Curriculum Night is this Thursday. The curriculum department is making the powerpoints again this year, and we were told that those should be available today. I will send to you as soon as they're available. They're also delivering the brochures that can be passed out at the meeting. The curriculum letters CAN be viewed online this year, so we don't have to send them (you still can, if you wish). There will be a link from each campus website to the curriculum page where the letters are found.
* The website is currently updated. I've been working, along with Laura Ingram, to learn the new system. We will be planning a time for technology specialists to come to campus and meet with teachers on how to get your pages set up. It is very different than Schoolwires, so it takes some practice, but we just want the basics on there. You can put more specific information, pictures, etc. on your Facebook/Twitter pages.
* College Colors day is THIS Friday! Make sure to tell your students to wear their favorite college colors!
* If you haven't received back your social media forms, make sure you get those returned, so we know who can/can't be on social media.
* Also, remember to turn in the School Compact permission forms once you have your entire (or majority) class set returned.
* Granola with Grandparents will be on Friday, September 8th. We will have it begin at 7:10 am. If you can try to be here early on that day to help out where needed, we would appreciate it. Forms will be sent home this week!
* Our first PTA meeting will be Tuesday, September 12th. This will also be our Title 1 informational meeting. We will be sending out invitations next week.
* Make sure to look at the school calendar on Outlook. We are trying to put all the dates on that calendar, so you all can see what dates are available, when events are taking place, and what days are blacked out for field trips. Once events/trips are approved, Laura will add to the calendar. We will also add school related absences to the calendar, so you all can see when there are a lot of teachers out. When we need to take personal days, etc., it's nice to try and take those days when we don't have a lot of other staff out for meetings, school events, etc....It makes getting subs more difficult. So, please use this calendar as a resource and as a guide when you are making your own grade level plans.
Great Expecations
This year, we will be implementing our GE life principles during announcements, as well as having the opportunity for kids to respond using the white interactive papers in the hallway (formerly used for vocabulary).
Each life principle will be talked about during a 1 week period. You will be getting the schedule sent this week, and it will also be posted on the One Note staff portal. We will discuss on announcements, and students will have the opportunity to write (or draw) how they show this life principle. For example, the first one is self discipline. They can write on the paper how they show or can use self discipline. This will require thinking and application... so it brings in the higher levels. We will talk about the expectations of how this will be used on the announcements, so the students are familiar with what is acceptable.
Just as the vocabulary has been done in the past, the life principles will remain posted on the wall, so that the students can see them and refer back to them. The Elk of the Month will be chosen based on the life principles that have been discussed for the month. Each student chosen will not have to demonstrate ALL of the life principles, but one or more.
This week, our life principle is:
Self Discipline: the ability to choose and control one's actions
