Kinder Review

Literacy Corner

For the past two weeks we continued review letters, sounds, blending and segmenting words. We also continued to conduct research in class. Two weeks ago we learned about a variety of oviparous animals in small groups. Last week we researched an insect, the ant, as a whole class. The class is doing a great job conducting research and recalling the information learned. We had a variety of writing activities associated with the research projects. I am so proud of the students and the love of learning. We got a lot done the past two weeks and the class really worked hard. We have also been working on writing opinionated papers. When writing opinion papers the students need to work on giving details that support their opinion. This is a hard concept for kindergartners. Please work with your child on giving more detail.

This week we are learning about Earth Day and how we can take care of the Earth on which we live. We will be creating posters that help us get out the word as to how we can keep our Earth safe for us to live in. We will also continue to work on all phonics skills needed to be better readers.

Math Lab

For the past two week we have reviewed skills taught, especially adding and subtracting up to 10. Please continue working on these skills at home.

This week we are continuing to review all skills taught, working on counting, adding, subtracting and shapes. We are also reviewing nonstandard measurement.

Parental FYI...

We now have seven weeks left in this school year. Please review all expectations with your child to insure that they get the most out of this last quarter. Listening attentively and not talking while others are talking, especially during instructional time, is very important. Being respectful to all is very important at all times.

Please view the video below. It gives you some great information about Camp Invention which will be held at Rocky River this summer. This camp allows your child to work with other students to explore their creative side and have fun in the process. This camp allows your child to continue to work on their reading, math and science skills without stress. It is a great camp to be involved in. I have worked the camp for the past two years and will be there again this year.
