Bennett Peek of the Week
SEPTEMBER 14TH - SEPTEMBER 18TH
The mission of Bennett Elementary School
Greetings! I am one of the newer members of the Bennett staff and would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Julie Frank, Bennett Elementary’s new Dean of Students. I am excited to be joining the Bennett students and staff; the school spirit is contagious here! My husband Steve and I are newer to the Fargo community, moving from Bismarck not quite two years ago. Previously I worked for Moorhead Public Schools learning and accountability team and Bismarck Public Schools as a classroom teacher and instructional coach. Steve is employed with Dakota Carrier Network of Fargo (DCN). The move to Fargo feels like coming home as we attended college in the area and are now closer to family and our weekend lake life. We have two young adult children, Madison (Brunelle) and Jake who also live and work in Fargo. I am grateful to be in the elementary setting with students and teachers and am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the Bennett families!

Davies Homecoming Spirit Week next week!
Next week is Homecoming Week at Davies High School and they are having special dress days to kick off the fun week. Here is our chance at Bennett to show our support for former students who are now at Davies or even dress like older siblings as they attend school at Davies. The below spirit days mirror how Davies’ students will celebrate. Please encourage your students to participate. Tuesday may require a little explanation for our students (and some of our staff).
Good Luck to all the Eagles in all of their activities this week (Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Cross Country, Swimming/Diving, Tennis)!
Next week will be homecoming spirit week:

Tuesday – 80’s Day
Wednesday – Eagle Spirit Day; wear your homecoming shirts and other eagle spirit gear
Thursday – Cowboy Day
Friday – Tropical/Tourist Day

SCHOOL SAFETY DRILLS - TORNADO, FIRE, RUN-HIDE-FIGHT
We have a variety of drills during the school year; fire, tornado, Haz Mat and Run-Hide-Fight. We are required to perform a certain number of these drills each school year.
The first set of drills are announced to teachers and students and the others may not be announced to allow students the ability to practice. You will not be notified of drills when they happen, however your student may share information with you.
In addition to these drills, teachers practice clearing their classrooms in case of a medical emergency or student safety situation. If a teacher asks the students to move from the room, instruction continues in another area of the building until they can go back into the classroom .
RUN-HIDE-FIGHT:
· Fargo Public Schools are required by the government to practice three run, hide, fight drills per year along with other drills (tornado, fire, etc).
· During a run, hide, fight drill, students get direction from their teacher about a situation at the school in which they would run, hide or fight. This is shared in age appropriate conversation.
· Teachers/staff will talk with students about what actions they would take if there was a threat. We follow the RUN, HIDE, FIGHT protocol.
· We practice this type of drill to prepare students and to keep your child safe in the event of an emergency. By practicing these drills, we will increase the likelihood of students and staff responding appropriately in the event of an emergency.
HALLWAY CLOSURE:
The hallway closure will be announced to the school when/if situations warrant the privacy of students or staff in medical situations, behavior incidents or any situation where we would want to keep students and staff out of the hallway for a specific amount of time.
