Matapeake Happenings

December 2022 edition

Message from Dr. McCoy, Principal

Dear Matapeake Middle School Families:

MMS Administrators, teachers and support staff would like to wish you a Happy Holiday Season! There will be an early dismissal on December 22 at 12:00PM. The winter holiday break begins December 23 thru January 1st. Schools will re-open on Monday, January 2, 2023.

I would like to thank Ms. Burrall, Choral Director and Mr. Flaherty, Band Director for the wonderful winter concert performance on December 13th. What an "awesome" performance! Our student performances were stellar and the students looked fantastic! Thanks to all of the parents and community members who came out to support. We had a full house.

Parents, please make sure that your children are not wearing pajamas or other sleep attire to school such as fuzzy slippers, night caps, etc. In case of an emergency or scheduled drill, students will need to be able to move quickly and safely. Students should be wearing warm and appropriate clothing and shoes. Students who report to school in pajamas will need to call home to have parents bring an appropriate change of clothes. If you have any questions about this, please contact me.

Also, there have been several incidents of school vandalism. Students are trashing bathrooms, taking letters off of signs in the hallways, and writing on the bathroom walls. The administration and staff take great pride in keeping our school clean, and we talk daily about having the "Respect for our school community". We have told the students if they see something, say something. Please speak with your children about respecting school property. Students and parents will be liable to pay restitution for damaged school property.

Finally, take this holiday season to relax and rejuvenate with your family and special friends. Send your children back rested, and ready to engage in learning.

Wishing you a wonderful Holiday Season! Dr. McCoy
