Field Day Volunteers Needed
Here's the link/directions for signing up (for any activity - currently field day and used book sale need the most volunteers):
Go to jacksonschoolpta.com and sign in or register for an account. Click on the "Volunteer" tab. Scroll down and click on the button that says, "Volunteer Interests and Opportunities," then click on "Current Volunteer Opportunities." Scroll down and you will see the currently available opportunities. Check the boxes of the ones you want to volunteer for, and click save at the bottom of the screen. You will then receive an email confirmation listing your volunteer shifts and contact information for the PTA in case you need to change your shift.
Announcements from the Office
Please, please, please do not send your child to school on a bike or scooter without a helmet.
Lost and found will be picked up every Friday through the end of the year (to avoid such large loads). If a name is on the article it will not be donated. The kids will be reminded throughout the week as well.
With all that will be happening in the school, please remember to sign in and take a badge. For the safety of your children as well as your own should an emergency occur, we MUST know who is in the building and for what purpose you are there. If you are here to speak to your child or drop something off, please come to the office and we will call your child down to meet you. This limits distractions for the teachers and other students during a very distracting time of the year.
We LOVE LOVE LOVE the copy paper donations. Every bit helps.
The last day to put money on your child's lunch account is May 26th. If a balance is on their account, it follows them to next year. If you are changing schools but staying in the HSD, the $$ follows the student automatically. If you are leaving HSD, you can contact Nutrition Services at 503-844-1459.
Students are welcome to bring sunscreen and wear hats and sunglasses at recess. We encourage water bottles all day!
If your students have medication checked-in at school, please plan to pick it up prior to noon on the last day of school June 23rd.
If you would like to give to a Jackson school project, see these Donors Choose projects.

Playground Update
Students are designing the new playground that will be installed at Jackson this summer! This is an optional activity that is proving to be great fun! Packets have already gone out. If you have questions about layout rules, how the linking pods can be used, or need to reprint anything from the design packet, visit this LINK for images of examples of what is allowed and what is not. If you have other questions you can always contact Melissa Spendal at melissa.spendal@gmail.com.
Thank you to the Hillsboro Schools Foundation for awarding a $5000 grant to help fund our playground! We still have more to raise, but we are on track to put in all the new equipment in July!

From the Principal
Recently a student was telling me about a project for class and when I asked him a question about it, he said, "I don't know, my mom won't let me help with school projects." Little did he know, that innocent statement has had me thinking about homework and projects ever since!
As a school, we value parent participation - the volunteering and kindness you show us and the Jackson students is amazing! Helping your child with homework and projects is something that can be very beneficial to students - they see your learning process and get a chance to talk out what they know, cementing their knowledge. However, if ever you find yourself working on their project or their homework because of a deadline or tight after school schedule, I encourage you to talk to the teacher and see if there is a time the student can work on it during the school day. If you just really want the project to be incredible and feel your child cannot hit that mark, I encourage you to reach out to the teacher so you can understand what she or he is expecting. We LOVE student work here and we know that student work can be messy, unorganized, dripping with glue, and definitely not perfect - and that is exactly what we want to see! Projects and homework are only sent for students to practice and show what they have learned so if you are feeling the need to show what you know, please take a minute and reconsider.
