Daniela Rojas~ Vu-PAP Bio-1st Period
Background Information
Scientific Name: Arthropoda
Habitat: Flatwoods and local pastures.
Predators: Beetles, tree bugs, flies, spiders, and wasps.
Prey: Plankton and insects.
Niche: Regulate the number of small insects.
Adaptations: Arthropods have an exoskeleton that prevents them from drying out and gives limbs a place to attach.
Objective
An examination of representative animals of Phylum Arthropoda would reveal certain similar traits. A list of these traits would form the basis for deciding if other animals should or should not be classified as arthropods.
Respiratory System
Function: The respiratory system is responsible for delivering sufficient oxygen to all cells of the body and for removing carbon dioxide that is produced as a waste product of cellular respiration.
Organs involved: trachea, mouth, air sacs, and gills/spiracles.
Extra Information
- Crustaceans and Uniramians make up most of these organisms.
- Arthropods make up 75% of all living and fossil organisms in the world.
- Arthropods make up the largest phylum in the animal kingdom
