The Nitty Gritty of Copyright
Fair Use
Stanford University defines fair use as, "the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposed of commentary and criticism". Fair use extends to satire, educational purposes, and news reporting.
Creative Common
Creative Common is a way for a creator to allow people to use his/her work without have to receive permission. The borrower must follow perimeters established by the creator.
Public Domain
Public Domain is a creative work that is not protected under copyright law.
