What are Red Wolves?
When people think of wolves, they think of dangerous creatures, foaming at the mouth. This isn't the case with the Red wolf, in fact, wolves only attack to protect themselves of their younglings. The Red wolf is probably one of the most friendly types of wolves. They are around two feet tall and usually weighs fifty to eighty pounds.
Lifestyle
Red Wolves primarily eat small animals like rabbits. sometimes if they cant find any rabbits, they will eat a deer. they live in forests and marshes. They find a good spot to live, and then mark their territory. A few months later, they will find a mate and reproduce. After their young grow, they kick them out of their habitat and they have to make it on their own. They are nokternal, so every night, they go out and get their food, this is why it is hard to spot one.
Why are they endangered?
The Red Wolf became endangered in 1973. No one knows exactly why, but many people think it was because people hunted them for their pretty, expensive skins and meat. Another reason was that animal control forces were using excessive force against them. The remaining wolves retreated into forests and marshes.
What can we do
Many thing are being done to help regrow the Red Wolf population. Scientists are captivating them and letting them breed. There are also many charitable foundations people can donate at to help the cause. A lot of people are also trying to stop people from hunting them just to put them on a wall.
