SBMS Weekly Updates

March 24, 2018

Happy Sunday Pirate Families!

Can you believe we are already rounding out the 3rd grading period? Friday marks the beginning of spring break and the start of the last grading period of the 2017-2018 school year. We have much to be proud of already but it's also important that we maintain our focus and finish strong. Our 7th grade students won March Madness and will be treated to field day activities and ice cream sundaes on Thursday afternoon. We are proud of their good attendance, passing grades and adherence to our behavior expectations. The 3rd 9 weeks behavior reward celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Students will go to the Swansboro Parks and Recreation facility to participate in a variety of activities. Please note that the permission slips parents signed at the beginning of the year had us scheduled to visit Hammocks Beach State Park. We have changed that to the Swansboro Parks and Recreation facility because they have so many great resources to share with our students.

Congratulations to Eric Zurilpee who placed 3rd at the Cape Fear Museum History Day competition. Eric will go on to compete at the state level in April Congratulations to Josalyn Amrine and Caitlyn Withey who competed at the district spelling bee and a huge shout out to our Envirothon Team and Coach Pavone who competed at the Eastern Region competition on Tuesday. Their team will go on compete at the state level in a few weeks. This past week also included our last home volleyball and soccer games. Both teams played well but succumbed to the skill of the Jacksonville Commons teams. We also completed our 3rd 9 week benchmarks, hosted strategic planning, dress for success and a dance. Congratulations to Ms. Correll, Mrs. Lott and Mrs. DeNune's classes who each won a pizza party for having the most students dressed for success. This final week before spring break will include baseball try-outs and a chorus concert on Monday, volleyball and soccer at Hunters Creek on Tuesday, spring pictures on Wednesday and the 7th grade March Madness celebration on Thursday.

Look ahead two weeks, students return from spring break on Monday, April 9. That will be an action packed week that will include the 3rd 9 week behavior reward incentive, the Tri-M recital, a Pirate Parent meeting, report cards and the PRIDE yard sale. Please contact Tiffany Huie at (910) 326-3601 if you are interested in renting a spot at the yard sale. Please also mark your calendars for our Literacy night on April 16 and the Swansboro district candlelight vigil on Friday, April 20. This vigil will be held at 7;30 pm at Swansboro High School and will include all Swansboro district schools who be praying and offering a moment of silence for the students, staff and families of our community.
