Studio 5 Retake Picture Day
January 14th will be our last picture retake day of the year! Please see the message below for more information.
Two types of students will come to Retake Day
Students who were absent: these students were absent for the original picture day. They will need to have their picture taken in order to appear in the yearbook. They may use their original order envelope or pick up another from the school office.
Students who want a retake: these students are not satisfied with their original pictures. Have them bring their entire picture package to the photographer. The photographer will retake the picture and we will reorder the package that was originally ordered. *Note that if the student wants “retakes” they must bring their original photos back to give to Studio 5.*
Order forms are in the front office and pictures will be delivered directly to the school, when complete. Questions can be directed to the WMS front office or directly to Studio 5 by calling (970) 674-0520.
Optimist Student of the Month
Please help us recognize Optimist Student of the Month, Opal Schlessman! Opal was nominated due to the following:
“Opal is an amazing student to have in class. She is a positive, bright personality to have in class! She is incredibly polite and helpful to everyone. It is clear that she has a creative mind, and creates some beautiful artwork!”
“Opal shines in the hallways and in class. She takes artistic expression to the nth degree and really stands out! I’m excited to have her in class this quarter!”
“Opal is one of those intelligent and creative students that is so inspiring! I love the way she celebrates her individuality, regardless of any negative attitudes around her. Opal participates in all the extra Spirit Days in school with the coolest, most elaborate costumes...my favorite? Her angel costume that looked so real during Spirit Week! You know? This costume fits her as she is truly an angel herself! A sincere congratulations from the 8th Grade Team, Opal! Thanks for bringing kindness, respect, and smiles each and every day!”
Congratulations, Opal!
Colorado Radon Poster Contest
Please help us to congratulate the following WMS students for placing in this year’s Colorado Radon Poster Contest!
1st Place - Hunter Polumbo
2nd Place - Asher Dunnell
Hunter’s poster will now be entered in the “National Radon Poster Contest” in Washington D.C. as the Colorado entry.
Congratulations!
Cell Phone Policy and Dress Code
Please see the below reminders from our student handbook in regard to our cell phone and dress code policies.
“Cell phones are not to be used by students inside the school during school hours from 7:50am to 3:05pm without teacher permission. The school offices are open from 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday to receive phone calls. Students may use the office phone when necessary. Messages will be delivered to students as needed. As such, please assist us by NOT messaging or directly contacting your student during the day. Violation of this policy may result in parents being required to pick up students’ device in the office.”
“Students are to come to school as neat and clean as possible. Student dress should be appropriate and safe. Half shirts, spaghetti straps, sagging pants and bandanas are not permitted. Sleeveless shirts/tank tops are not permitted for boys. Tank top straps for girls clothing are to be two inches or more in width. Shorts and skirts must be fingertip length or longer. Yoga pants and leggings may be worn, if covered by an article of clothing extending to fingertip length. Tears or holes in pants must not be inappropriate or revealing. Shirts displaying a student’s stomach, chest or back are not permitted. Additionally, undergarments should not be visible at any time. No hats, caps or chains are to be worn in the building. Clothing with inappropriate or suggestive words, slogans, symbols or images will not be permitted. Any attire or accessory such as facial jewelry (nose, lip, and eye piercing), hairstyle or hair color that is distracting to the learning process will not be allowed. The school will have the final say on whether the dress is appropriate. Students will change into school provided attire until appropriate clothing can be provided. Detention may be assigned for repeated infractions.”
Please call or email the office with questions at (970) 686-8200 or wms@weldre4.org.
You're Invited!
You are invited to a community meeting on January 21st at 6:30pm at Windsor Middle School to learn more about potential renovation plans for our school.
As our school district makes plans to potentially request funding in November 2020 for two new elementary schools, adding capacity at Severance Middle School and Windsor Middle School (WMS), and investing in the maintenance and improvements of all district facilities, it will apply for a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant from the Colorado Department of Education.
BEST grants are highly competitive and are prioritized for the worst-condition school facilities in the state. We believe the unusable portion of WMS, the 1927 building, may be a good candidate for funding.
The January 21 meeting is the second community meeting the district is hosting to get feedback on possible construction scenarios for WMS and to discuss the BEST application process in more detail.
8th Grade Parent Night
Windsor High School principal, Michelle Scallon would like to invite our 8th grade families to 8th Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, January 29th at Windsor High School. The evening will begin in the main gym of Windsor High School (located on the north side of campus) at 5:00pm. Families will have the opportunity to visit with all academic departments as well as coaches and club sponsors. At 6:00pm, activities will move to the auditorium (located in the same building as the gym) for a fun-filled, informative session with administration and counselors.
Questions can be directed to Windsor High School at 970-686-8100.
