Perry Named A Tier 1 School Within BPS
We are excited to announce that the Perry School was announced as a Tier 1 School within the Boston School Quality Framework. The tiers were recalculated for the first time since 2019 and announced at the start of the week prior to the launch of the 2024 - 2025 school registration period.
Spirit Week Is Here!! Next Week! December 4th - 8th
In conjunction with our School-Parent Council, we are going to hold a winter Spirit Week next week: December 4th through 8th. The idea is to drum up some school spirit and reinforce engagement/attendance at a time of the year where those things can start to fade.
Giving Tuesday Campaign
The Friends of Perry Giving Tuesday Campaign is in full swing and extends until next Wednesday, December 6th. The Friends of Perry have set a goal of 75 participants and donors. If you are able to help out, all donations (big and small) are greatly appreciated and directly support strengthening the educational experience for all of our students – thank you!! Please see the flyer below for more information.
Holiday Events in the Community
As a heads-up, Thursday evening is the South Boston Holiday Stroll, which runs from 4 to 6 PM (so we may see some early dismissals). Santa visits M Street Park at 4:15, and the tree lighting at the library on East Broadway takes place at 4:45 PM.
Also, this coming weekend is the Mayor's Enchanted Trolley Tour with events throughout the city on Saturday and Sunday afternoon -- please see the Flyer below. The Seaport Menorah Lighting takes place on the evening of Sunday, December 10th.
Notice About Annual Licensure Letters From The District
Every year, the district is required to send letters out regarding teachers that do not have full licensure within their subject area. As an FYI in advance, please expect to receive a letter this year regarding specialist teachers. Please be assured that each of the specialty teachers mentioned in the letter in fact has multiple teaching licenses (elementary and either special education or ESL) and many years of experience. While they are highly qualified for their position, they just have not yet added a license within their current specialty field.
Coming Up: Free Holiday Book Market & Polar Plunge / Winter Wonderland
We will be holding our second annual Free Holiday Book Market for students on the mornings of Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th (exact schedule to be determined). All students will get a chance to pick out a new book or two to bring home for the holidays!
On Thursday, December 21st (which is the final day before Break), we will be holding a Winter Wonderland for students during the school day – focused on crafts, small games, etc. In the afternoon, if we reach our Giving Tuesday goal, Mr. Rollins will be plunging into Dorchester Bay. All students will also be able to wear Pajamas on that day (if the Perry giving goal is met). Families are invited to join us at the Perry Plunge at 3 PM.
Picture Makeup Day
As a friendly reminder, Picture Makeup Day will occur on Thursday, December 7th. Beyond being a makeup day for those who were absent, all students can retake their photos on the 7th if they were not happy with how their initial photos turned out (please just let your child’s homeroom teacher know that they will be retaking!). Those families should send in their original pictures with their student who will give them to the photographer, and they will automatically send out new ones.
Our Food Drive Is Still Happening!
As a reminder, we can accept all non-perishable goods that are not expired, such as canned foods, pastas, rice, sauces, meal kits, other dried goods, and etc.
Please Send Students With Coats, Hats and Gloves
As it continues to get colder and windier, please remember to send students with coats, hats and gloves as we will continue to go outside for recess whenever possible. Also, please remember to put your child’s name on any and all items – it’s very helpful in trying to reunite lost items to their owner : ) Thank you!
Our first school preview of the season was a success! If you know any perspective families who are interested in enrolling their child in The Perry, please have them reach out to Ms. Sasha at Scanzater@bostonpublicschools.org or click the link to register.
