STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Rebekah Scheffer
My name's Rebekah, I live in Spokane WA but am originally from a small town north of me called Deer Park. I grew up on 40 acres and knew how to ride horses before I could walk. My dream was always to compete in the local rodeos and last year I had got to taste a bit of what it's like to compete.
I'm 17 years young and currently own a beautiful champagne mare who I named Camii. I am planning to enter in multiple local / northwest rodeos with her and couldn't be more excited for this upcoming season. Yes, I take selfies with my horse and honestly she's much better at smiling for one then I am. Sorry I do not have any current racing pictures as she's still in training. Lower right picture is of my older gelding that I trained on last year who recently passed away. Figured I'd give him some credit as to why I'm a much better rider then before.
I entered ISWA because my mom recently got diagnosed with fast pace glaucoma and I felt like I needed to be home with her. Also quite frankly I'm mature for my age and can't stand the drama of regular high school. This way I am able to work at my own pace and also have time to hit up the gym and train my horse.
I'm stoked to see what this semester holds for me and am excited to finally have my own unique schedule.

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: Barbara Hollingshead ~ by Carrie Petrone
Hi, I'm Carrie Petrone, and I want to share what I learned about my favorite teacher, Barbara Hollingshead. I asked what she like to do outside of school and she told me she loves to read and go to the ocean beaches.
She has 4 girls and 1 boy with a total of 5 children. She said “I was born in Seattle and lived in Yakima from the time I was 6 months old until I was 45 years old. Then moved back to Seattle.” Her favorite food is “a big crunchy salad with lots of veggies.” Her favorite color is blue, and her favorite drink is iced tea.
When she was little she wanted to be a mom. “So that dream came true.” Her son is almost an Eagle scout, she said, “so I have been involved in the Boy Scouts for 10 years where I am a merit badge counselor.”
As a teacher she loves the opportunity to work with students and families from variety of backgrounds. She said “I have learned so much from my students – about their cultures, their dreams, their interests – and look forward to continue learning from them.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with endorsements in Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and am working on my licensing as a mental health therapist.”

K12 NATIONAL CLUBS - CHECK IT OUT!!!
National clubs meet online, and include students from across the United States. Clubs will meet online twice a month in November, but only once a month in December and January, due to holidays. Students are welcome to join up to FOUR K12 National Clubs!
Almost all K12 National Clubs are open year-round! The time it takes to hear from a national club after sign-up depends on the timing of the sign-up. Signups are collected every 2 or 3 weeks, so don't worry if you don't hear from the club leader for a week or two!
