Mrs. Lyon and Mr. Peri's Classes
Week of 9/19-23
In math, your child will begin a new unit on Multiplication. We will begin estimating products and then using the US algorithm.
In Science, we are continuing with our study on matter. Students will begin a project on Friday where they invent a new form of matter based on what they have learned. They will present the new product to the class.
In reading, our skill of the week is problem and solution. We will read an article about making ocean water drinkable in California. Students will work on conjunctions and combining sentences. We will get a chance to hear a read aloud, whole group reading, guided reading, and independent reading this week!
Continue to encourage your student to be reading independently at home and marking their minutes on the bright yellow reading log. Reading logs are due to Mrs. Lyon at the end of the month for a grade. Then, they will be turned into Mrs. Grizzle for the reading program she does. This reading program counts toward the Triathlon Award at the end of the year.
In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of the U.S. We will be discussing settlement patterns and why people move to the places they do. Students will analyze the reasons for the location of major cities in the United States. They will choose a place they would like to permanently settle in their life and will write a descriptive paragraph.
