Patsy Mink was an Asian - American woman and she was the first colored woman ever to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She also became the first Asian - American to run for President and to serve in congress. Another display of Patsy Mink’s perseverance was when she was elected President of her school’s student body only a week after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which happened in her home state. She was the first female to do so. Patsy Takemoto Mink was a champion of women and civil rights. She even had two laws written about equal opportunities for all people in education and President Jimmy Carter named her Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs. Patsy Mink stood up for what was right even though it went against what others said.
