New Teacher Support & Development
Empowering and Motivating Every Student, Every Day!
LEARNING ALWAYS
Two days with a district team attending the "Leading with Improvement Science" conference fostered learning and conversing and thinking and collaborating. Nine of us shared voluminously about protocols for improvement relative to a district problem of practice.
Words of wisdom that foster improvement resonate within me because they relate to what we all do to promote change in whichever realm we work. These are just a few.
- Connect to the heart, then the head, and then the hands will work.
- Those closest to the need know best what they need. Ask them.
- Developing relationships can impact change.
- Be clear about what we value most.
- Beware the repetition of Plan/Do. Be sure to stop, to reflect, to analyze what we are doing. Is what we are doing making a difference?
- When expending energies on a student with great need, remember the other students in the class. Maintain balance.
- Make the complex elegantly simple.
A quote that encompassed the training states, "Shifting mindsets and behaviors is the core of any continuous improvement journey." (Joakim Ahlstrom 2015)
The response frame for closure asked us to reflect on a take-away for the days. I include it, for certainly, it may be used in the classroom.
I used to think ___________________ , but now I know ____________________________ .
