Media
Media is the main mass of communication. It is a very influencing part of today's society. Media is everywhere, Newspapers, internet, magazines, billboards, etc. the media also has a lot to do in today's world and news. Every news/advertisement we see is somehow related to media; it influences people and sometimes even changes their way of thinking. Media literacy is the ability to understand how mass media functions, how they produce meanings, how they are organized, and how to use them widely. A media literate person can describe the role media plays in his or her life. Media bring the world into our homes. From them, we learn about war and peace, the environment, new scientific discoveries, and so on. Almost everything we know about people, places, and events that we cannot visit first-hand comes from the media. Media makes a great impact in today's society and is used on a daily basis almost everywhere! An important and useful branch of media is social media. Social media is websites and applications used for social networking. Many people use internet as a way to connect to their friends and family. There are many social media sites that billions of people use daily. Some of them are Facebook, google, twitter, and Instagram. Social networks and other online social media are great tools for engagement and two-way communication. People communicate and socialize through these websites on a daily base. In the past few years social media sites have grown immensely.

“A hero’s welcome” (2014) is a commercial advertisement created by Budweiser that played during the super bowl which focused on a young soldier coming home to his wife and family and Implies that every soldier should be received in a very welcoming way. Budweiser welcomes the soldier by receiving him with a ceremony in his home town with all his friends, family, and home residents. Budweiser uses real life examples such as ceremonies in order to receive the soldier and push the fact that every warrior should be received in a special way not only because they are fighting for our country but they are protecting us all. The audience in this commercial is anyone related to soldiers in any way such as family, friends, relatives, and even friends of friends, the tone used in this advertisement is very heart warming.
MARIJUANA USE SHOWS NO SIDE EFFECT (satire)

Scientists show that there are no side effects from using the plant marijuana.
Scientists James Steel and Harry Toes experimented with the plant and let 10 different high school students smoke the herb for one semester of their high school year.
After the experiment and the semester was over Dr. Steel and Dr. Toes analyzed and got data from each student that was experimented.
“The data from the experiment and from the students show that all of the students health are perfectly fine,” quotes Dr. Toes. “Except for a mild, yet minor cough here and there.”
After the scientists went over the data, they gathered the students from the experiment to gain more data.
When the students came back to the scientists they were complaining that some of them had to go to summer school for failing one of their classes.
Before the scientists asked any further questions, Dr. Steel asked for everyone to raise their hand if they failed any of their classes during the semester of the experimentation.
All ten of the students raised their hand ferociously.
2+2=5
The song's title "2 + 2 = 5" recalls the symbol of unreality from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the book, inhabitants of an authoritarian future state are made to engage in double think, replacing their own conscience and beliefs with those imposed from above. At the end of the novel, the protagonist's individuality is demolished, as he is forced to believe that two and two are, in fact, five. It is contrasted with the phrase "two plus two makes four", the obvious truth. Orwell's protagonist, Winston Smith, uses the phrase to wonder if, the State might declare "two plus two equals five" as a fact; he ask himself whether, if everybody believes it, does that make it true? The Inner Party interrogator of thought-criminals, O'Brien, says of the mathematically false statement that control over physical reality is unimportant; so long as one controls their own perceptions to what the Party wills, then any act is possible, in accordance with the principles of double think ("Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once"). I believe this song was made for 1984; the song lyrics and tone fit the novel perfectly and match many of the story lines facts.
Entry 6
Media literacy is the greatest means mass of communication. Everything we see or hear about most likely originated from media. My views in media literacy have slightly changed. Media is a powerful tool. It can be used as tool to help your everyday life, yet it can also be used in many harmful ways. We see it anywhere from checking the weather to reading news articles from your phone. I learned that media literacy is in our everyday lives and it’s not going anywhere. I can now write a précis which is one of the most important things I learned this semester. I also learned how to reflect on different subjects and analyze deeply. Most of this course was based on critical thinking and it definitely improved my analyzing and reflecting skills. In this class I also learned many life morals. This class was different from other language arts classes in many ways. We studied different topics but a majority of them have to do with our society today. This class studies how our country works, thinks, and deals with in different case scenarios. This class gets us ready for the real world and explains to us how media and world events related and function. Other classes also focus on plain old writing while this class expands our knowledge and education to go out there after high school and have an idea of how we function. While other language arts courses focus mainly on past literature, this class focuses on how the present functions. To make this class more successful in the future, the education cabinet should focus more on present events and activities rather than working and studying fictional stories. Instead of spending a 4th of the semester reading, we could keep learning about how our society functions. Many factors apart from media literacy were left out and it would be magnificent if such points were addressed in the future.
