PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou,

As we head into the final week of school I want to thank our wider community for their support during this challenging year. There are many people who have contributed to our school, which in turn, has led to extensive opportunities for our young people. We have parents who stand on the side of the road in all weather conditions helping with road patrol, helpers in classrooms, Discovery, school trips and camps. Suz Stuttle and the wonderful uniform shop team, Sophie Sowman and all those amazing people who contribute to the Supper Club and our incredible sports coaches who give up so much of their time, just to name a few. To everyone who has put their hand up this year, on behalf of our students, I sincerely thank you.

Our Board has a largely thankless, but crucial role in our school. I am humbled to work alongside such a talented group. I would like to acknowledge Kelly Ives, Steph Maloy, Catherine Wedd, Tara Wilkins, Matt Tod, Jason Kupa, & Jeremy Hunt for the outstanding work they do. They ask tough questions and are always looking for strategic improvement.

I would like to acknowledge Maggie Poll and the brilliant Home and School team and their outstanding sub-committees, (Peak Trail Blazer, Big Night Out and Blast in the Park). Even though the BNO was the only event to eventuate this year, these committees worked their socks off trying to get across the line, only to be thwarted by the Covid health guidelines. Thank you so much to each and every one of you.

I would like to acknowledge Shona, Greg and our hard working management team, teachers and support staff for their dedication and commitment to improving learing outcomes for all students. They are such a fantastic group who have certainly proven their worth in challenging times. I wish them all a well deserved break.

For a number of families this is the end of an era. I would like to commend you for all you have done for our school over the years.

A special thank you to our students for the resilience they have shown and the strong finish we have had to our school year. We wish our Year 6's all the best for their new challenges ahead. We look forward to meeting up with them during the middle of next year to get some feedback about how we set them up for the next stage of their education.

"O" Mufti Day

The Mufti day was a lot of fun last week raising a massive $808.80 for Breast Cancer. A wonderful effort team!

Meet the Teacher 2022

We are trialing something new next year where students and whanau can come in on Tuesday 1st February (the day before school starts) to informally meet the classroom teacher. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 1pm - 3pm for you to pop in and introduce yourselves. Teachers will also have some information about classroom/school operations for you to take away. We hope you and your child find this a good way to "break the ice", particularly for our new families. We will update you with the latest Covid requirements closer to the start of next year.

Have a fantastic holiday season everyone. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in 2022.

Ngā mihi

Mrs O's Farewell

Last Friday we had a farewell for our much loved Mrs O. Brenda O'Loughlin has given our school 25 years of amazing service. Brenda is an outstanding classroom teacher who has always set high expectations for her students. The good news is that Brenda will be available for relieving and part-time work next year.

In the photo above you will see Brenda unveiling the amazing piece of art work produced by the immensley talented Melanie Shennan. The photo does not do this work justice, but this piece includes a number of elements Brenda had asked for including The Sleeping Giant and elements from the school.

Principal Awards

Congratulations kids. Thank you for being positive role models in our school.

** THANK YOU FROM THE PTB TEAM **

The Peak Trail Blazer Team would like to thank our school community and all the very generous families who chose to donate their entry fees to the event fundraising efforts. We would also like to thank our incredible sponsors who have continued to support the fundraising. Despite the event not going ahead, The Peak Trail Blazer has still managed to raise funds for the school and Re-Source Charity. The fundraising is yet to be totalled but the funds will still go towards replacing the school turf next year. We will also be able to donate to our chosen charity Re-Source and help them purchase much needed shelving for all the goods that have been donated for many families in need around Hawke’s Bay. We’ve been very moved by the generosity of our school families and community and we would like to thank you all. We are looking forward to the Peak Trail Blazer 2022!! Happy Holidays everyone.
