Another Successful Week...Getting into a Groove!
Having now completed our second week of school, students appear to be settling into a routine and they are becoming more and more familiar with the expectations and schedule. I hope that they are feeling comfortable in their classes and that some degree of normal is back in their lives. We continue to hone and adjust based upon what we are seeing and the feedback that we are receiving from students, parents, and teachers. While this is not a perfect situation, I am pleased thus far and renew our commitment that things will keep getter better! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Back-to-School Night
Our annual Back-to-School Night will be held virtually on Wednesday, September 16th. The main program will begin at 6:00 PM; however, there are some drop-in sessions scheduled to start at 5:40 PM. Click HERE for an overview of the schedule. Teachers will do a LIVE Zoom session during the designated slot. In preparation for the evening, you will need to access a copy of your child's class schedule (with teacher names) from Home Access Center. I will email on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM a document that contains the links to join the sessions. For security purposes, I will not be posting the links on our website. Please be sure that your email address is accurate in Home Access Center.
Please REGISTER - Hybrid or Fully-Virtual
We are providing another opportunity for parents to re-visit their child's learning program - HYBRID or FULLY-VIRTUAL. We are asking that EVERYONE please complete this quick form to aid in our planning. We are hoping to begin a phased return to in-person instruction using a hybrid (A/B cohort) model in the near future. So that we are able to plan accordingly, we need this updated information for each student - even if your preferences have not changed. We are asking for a commitment that will run through the end of the first semester in mid-January.
Weekly Technology Notes
As you know, this year we are using Zoom as our primary platform for video conferencing with students. We are working to make the environment as safe and secure as possible. One step that we are implementing next week is a standard naming configuration for students when they enter Zoom sessions. The name mirrors each student's email convention - graduation year, first name, last name. This will help to ensure that only verified students are admitted to Zoom classrooms. I also addressed with students our desire for them to have their video on during class. This is important so that teachers are able to see engagement, determine when a student may need more help, and to support the development of relationships within the classroom. While I have stopped short of mandating video (for now), it is a strong recommendation. Please speak with your child about this and encourage VIDEO ON as much as possible.

Calendar Changes - Please Make Note!
Our teachers continue to sharpen their skills to deliver virtual instruction and they are working to get ready for the start of hybrid teaching. In an effort to provide our teachers with necessary training and collaboration time, the Rose Tree Media School District has implemented the following calendar changes for September:
Wednesday, September 16th - Early Dismissal, 11:25 AM
Wednesday, September 23rd - NO School
Students may use time on these days to ensure that they are current with their work AND may choose to take a break from the screen.
LAST CHANCE to Order Spartan Gear!
Show your Spartan Pride with a new hoodie or t-shirt. Items will be shipped directly to your home. But don't delay, the pop-up store closes THIS SUNDAY - September 13th.
Back-to-School Forms & Electronic Acknowledgement
Don't Forget...
Outstanding Student Emergency Cards may be dropped off to the Main Office or mailed. We have also created a quick, electronic process to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement and the technology forms, if you still need to do so. Please help our wonderful clerical staff by taking two minutes to complete this process as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE - EVERYONE needs to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement.
Grab-and-Go Breakfast & Lunch Available
Even while students are learning virtually, our Food Services Department will be making breakfast and lunch available to interested students and families. Meals are being distributed from Penncrest High School and Media Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Specific details are posted on the Rose Tree Media School District Website.
The Spartan Scoop - Week of September 7th
Check our this week's editions of The Spartan Scoop. Students have enjoyed playing a new game that we have been featuring this week, "Where in the Lake Am I?" Enjoy!
