Region 15 CTE Weekly Update

May 11 - May 15, 2020

“Do you have the talent?” is rarely the question. “Do you have the guts to finish?” is the real question. ― Orrin Woodward

We are in the 7th inning stretch...the last day of school is circled on this month's calendar. I hope you are continuing to take care of yourself and checking on the students that aren't making connections with you. I've been knee deep (no kidding at all) in Proclamation 2021 textbook samples for PreK. (One of the many hats I wear). Apparently the PreK adoption can't be issued electronically so I have been sorting through boxes and boxes of materials. I know that you might have already been working to pack up your classroom or waiting to be called back to your campus to do so. Ah what a strange way to end a school year. Not really any type of closure. If this was your first year, your last year or your 15th or whatever it may be, it sure wasn't fair to your or your students to just end like it did. I hope you can create some sort of closure for you and your students. A final email, or video or something to mark the end of school year 2019-2020.

Monday - May 11

I don't know about you but I am seriously weary.

I know some of you might be looking for summer professional development...I am trying to get everything posted. I had another NCCER zoom with the vendor and other ESCs today. I am working on setting up myself and Region 15 as a trainer and sponsoring entity. For now the training this summer will be with ESC Region 20 and conducted through zoom. I have a few more questions for Ruthie at 20 as far as registration goes. Since we are not going to be able to contract with Region 20, ESC 15 will pay the registration fees for attendees from Region 15. I hope to have a registration link up soon. Dates are June 17-19 for NCCER.

Registration is open for the following:

STEAM 2020 Expo June 16 - 17 (zoom)

Tuesday - May 12

I sent out an email yesterday to ag, building trades, CTE directors about the NCCER Training on June 17-19, as well as an option to wait and attend one with me later in the summer. (I am waiting to hear back from NCCER about a master trainer course I can take.) If you would like to take the class June 17-19, please let me know soon. I will pay the registration fee to Region 20.

Life Skills Challenge Idea Great idea from Quitman ISD

Wednesday - May 13

Sorry for the late post. I was able to make a few Perkins deliveries today and then have been working on Proclamation 2021.

I did want to update you about ServSafe on July 15-16. We still have this workshop scheduled at the ESC. I am working with the presenter for a virtual option. I think the link to register is not live right now but we will get that fixed. The exam will need to be face to face, but I feel we can work this out.

I am also going to talk to Peggy at TCEA about our annual robotics workshop. Right now TCEA has cancelled all summer PD. I am going to see if we can have zoom sessions and see if we can come up with a 6 hour (maybe several shorter sessions) PD that will be beneficial to you next school year. I know several of you have completed the PD survey for me, but if you have something specific in mind you would like me to look into please let me know. I had a chance to do some thinking outside of my new "office" and I have a few ideas for PD I am going to try to launch. I know you all needed answers a few weeks ago, but don't give up yet.

I don't know about you but I have to find a different way to work. I guess since I am not physically in the office I feel like I don't have a set "end of work day". I seem to find my self back at the computer after I make supper. At first it wasn't so bad, but now it's wearing me out...and I think it's starting to bug the rest of the folks in this house. Just stop at 5 pm, I'm told. Well it's easier said than done. When you have a servants heart it is hard not to stop and help. Also being an excessive worrier doesn't help. I have a card on my desk with Philippians 4:6. I look at it every day.

I hope you are taking care of yourself and those around you. I think I will smoke some ribs tomorrow and hang out on the back porch. It might rain and that's fine with me.

Be well,

Traci
