Elmdale School
November Newsletter
Principal's Message
October was another great month at Elmdale! Who would have expected to have a snow day in October, so that was definitely something unique - and hopefully a fun surprise!
Skating began in October for our grade 3 and 4 students. Mr. Fast reports that many students started off saying "I can't skate" and didn't think they could learn, but it was amazing how quickly many of them were getting the hang of it and zipping around on the ice! What a great experience!
Our grade 2's also started their swimming lessons every Thursday afternoon. Their teachers are reporting that many of the kids are becoming more confident and skilled swimmers each week. It's exciting to hear them talk about this!
Grade 1's visited the Fire Station and learned about Fire Safety. A big thanks to the Steinbach Fire Department and Firefighter Cindy Klassen-Krahn for teaching our students.
I also wanted to highlight the fact that we will be selling Elmdale clothing (see info below) this month. I'm really excited that we have the chance to get the Elmdale logo visible in the community. Many people often stop me and say that they went to Elmdale as a child and they want to hear about what is going on at the school. Let's flood Steinbach with people wearing the Elmdale Logo so that everyone can see all the awesome people that go to Elmdale now!

School Assemblies
Our assemblies are a fun time to get together as a whole school (grade 1-4 until spring break) to celebrate the exciting things happening and to build community in the school. Usually if children are performing, their teachers will notify families specifically welcoming them to attend.
Remembrance Day Assembly
Student-Led Conferences
Retakes
If your child is in 3L with Ms. Laninga, their class photo will also be taken on November 8.
Technology at Elmdale
Technology is something that we use at Elmdale to enhance learning experiences. Every classroom has a pod of iPads, and we have a computer lab that classes can use. We try to make sure that the activities being done on the iPads or computers are educational and support the learning happening.
All of our devices that are connected to the internet are filtered in multiple ways to prevent students from accessing inappropriate content. We also are committed to directly supervising students whenever they are on an iPad or computer at school. Please see this document for further information about technology in Hanover School Division:

Roots of Empathy
Elmdale School Clothing
We are excited to give staff, students, and Elmdale families the chance to purchase some clothing with the school logo, and wear it proudly! We have chosen a variety of options at a variety of price ranges to give everyone a chance to purchase something they like.
Order forms are due back at the school on Wednesday, November 13, and all clothing will be delivered to the school before Christmas. This is a great opportunity for some Christmas shopping!
Sample sizes will be available to try on at the school at the office until Friday, November 8, and during the day on Student Led Conferences day, November 12. We do not have samples of every size available, so if you don't see the correct size, please ask us for a list of available sizes - most items are available from XS to 3XL or larger.
Please do not send your children to try on clothing without a parent present.
All orders must be submitted using the paper order form with payment. If you choose to pay by credit card, this must be done on the Parent Portal. Order forms without completed payment will not be processed.
End of Day Messages
Due to the busyness of the end of the day, students will not be called out of class to be picked up after 3:30. Please be aware that students walking home or being picked up are dismissed at 3:45 after our bus students have left.
Allergy Reminder
If there is a specific allergy in a classroom, those families will be notified separately. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for respecting this for the sake of the safety of our students. Click HERE for more information.
