Election Day
Tuesday was a day for understanding our local government and the act of choosing our local leaders...Election Day! Our discussions and activities have helped us address the following Indiana Academic Social Studies standards:
- "Understand and explain why it is important for a community to have responsible government."
- "Identify community leaders, such as the mayor and city council."
- "Explain that the United States government is founded on the belief of equal rights for its citizens, and that citizens have rights and responsibilities in a particular community, city, state or country."
Veterans Day
As you know, Sunday is Veterans Day. I am always appreciative of our veterans, but this year I am keenly reminded of their sacrifice. You see, on Tuesday, my son will leave the country of Turkey for Spain as he embarks upon his fourth deployment since joining the United States Air Force. This week, students wrote letters and made cards for troop members all across the globe. These letters will be included in care packages that were funded by a generationOn grant, and were assembled by our Student Council members. This highlights the following Social Studies Indiana Academic Standard:
- "Explain the importance of being a responsible citizen* of your community, the state and the nation. Identify people in your community and the state who exhibit the characteristics of good citizenship."
Next Week's Share Topic
Feeling Thankful: Thanksgiving is upon us. What three things are you most thankful for in your life? Be sure to support your choices with reasons and examples. Students will be expounding on this topic with their writing next week.
World Cup Stacking Day
Our students participated in World Cup Stacking Day on Thursday. They are continuing these skills in P.E. class, and I am always amazed by their skills with this. Be sure to check out some of the fun photos below, as well as the information Mrs. Treadway has asked me to tuck in your child's folder.
The Corner Market
The Corner Market will be open Wednesday, November 14th from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Union County High School. This food pantry is open to all students in our school corporation K-12 and their immediate household. There are no financial requirements and everyone is welcome. One visit per family. Please bring an ID. Enter through Door 21. Should you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Brannon or Cindy Toschlog at 458-5136.
Related Arts Schedule Changes
As of Monday, November 12, the schedule for our related arts classes has changed. I've included a "refrigerator copy" of the new schedule in the Friday folder. Please be advised, though, that next week only, we will be going to the library on Thursday (not Friday as the schedule indicates), because Mrs. Grissom will not be in the building that day.
