Dominic's Toy Chest
Dominic Liples was a Kutz student diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of 2016. Dominic is the brother of a current 5th grade Kutz student, Ciarlo Liples. Dominic underwent brain surgery to remove as much of the mass as possible. Over the course of 9 months, Dominic was frequently in and out of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments. Unfortunately, he lost his battle against brain cancer in the early morning of December 7, 2016 at the age of 8 years old. Dominic’s parents, Kira and Kenny, wanted to do something for the children at CHOP. “When kids go through treatment it is year-round. Toys are usually only sent at the Christmas holidays. The children also get gifts when they complete treatment. Well, not every child will get to complete treatment or be there during the holidays. We want each child to get something, so they know they are loved and prayed for always.”
The Liples decided to do a toy drive in May since it is brain tumor awareness month, and Dominic was born on May 1st. Our school would like to help them with their collection. The items must be new and in their original packaging since they are going to children in the hospital. Click here for a list of items to donate: Amazon.com
There will be collection bins in the school lobby and bus hallway so students can drop the items off on their way to class in the morning. Items could also be sent directly to the Liples household from the Amazon Wishlist.
Field Day Update!
Kutz's FIELD DAY is scheduled for Friday May 20th (with a rain date of Tuesday May 24th). Thank you to those that signed up- https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0449aaac29a02-kutz. Please note that all volunteers will need all CBSD CLEARANCES to be up to date. If you have any questions about the sign-ups, please contact Mr. Durie at adurie@cbsd.org. For all volunteers -- We'll be in touch around the middle of May with more details.
All parents are invited to come and watch the field day stations. We will not be doing the outside picnic lunch. Students will eat with their class in the cafeteria, as they typically do. The end of the day will be tug of war, but that will be Kutz students and staff only. We will let you know the station times in an upcoming newsletter in case you are interested in watching.

Home and School Update!
Dear Teachers, Staff and Families,
On behalf of our Home and School Association, we just wanted to say THANK YOU.
TEACHERS AND STAFF: Thank you for all of the amazing ways you go above and beyond and continue to bring magic into the classroom/school day after day! There is no doubt our children are loved and cared for and so much more. It’s a work of HEART!
FAMILIES: Thank you for always stepping right up and helping in all the ways you do. We are so lucky to be surrounded by the most amazing families!
Kutz is such a special place. We love our big and little cougars.
A special shout out to Janis Whalen, of Kona Ice Truck, for donating her time and delicious treats to our teachers/staff on a perfectly warm spring day! Your generosity is so appreciated!
And to Rafaa Habib, of Bocelli’s, for once again, providing his wonderful hospitality: preparing and personally delivering meals to our staff with such a quick turnaround and a smile, always!
Thank you,
Staff Appreciation Committee
PSSA Update!
Next week begins our PSSA testing. The English Language Arts assessment will be on April 26, 27, and 29 (not April 28) from 9:15 to 11:15 AM for students in grades 3, 4, and 6 and from 9:45 to 11:45 AM for students in grade 5. The Mathematics assessment will be on May 3 and 4 from 9:15 to 11:15 AM for students in grades 3, 4, and 6 and from 9:45 to 11:45 AM for students in grade 5. The Science assessment is for 4th grade only and will be on May 9 from 9:15 to 11:45 AM. It is imperative that the students are here by 8:50 AM each testing day. If they are late and the testing window has begun, they will need to wait for the session to be over and they will need to make up the assessment at a later date.
Make up testing will take place between May 2 and May 12.
Because the testing is fully online this year, all 3rd-6th grade students are encouraged to bring the following materials to school on testing days:
- fully charged laptop
- laptop charger (labeled with your child's name)
- independent reading book
- computer mouse (if interested)
- headphones (if interested)
Attached you will also see the electronic device policy for the assessment. Students should not bring cell phones, smart watches, or other electronic devices to school on the day of these assessments. If a student brings it, we will ask them to turn it off and place it in their backpack. If a student is found not abiding by these rules, this violation would need to be reported to the state department of education, the device would be taken by a staff member, a parent/guardian would be contacted, and there would be a consequence.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding PSSAs.
Sincerely,
Christina Adelberger

Sparks- Counselor Information
Below is a Sparks newsletter article we sent out almost two years ago. The topic is still very relevant. Please take the time to watch with your children for some interesting and needed discussion.
In today’s world we are all trying to know what is best for our children but it is difficult to see what lies ahead for them. The Sparks video below gives some economic insight into the past, present and future. Please share your reactions to this video with you children for their own understanding of future possibilities.

Attendance
Click here for PDF directions for how to input the absence, tardy, or early dismissal.
Click here for video directions for how to input the absence, tardy or early dismissal.
Requests made using the parent portal will also serve as the excuse for the absence. Parents will not be required to submit an excuse either electronic or written.
Parents and guardians can also still call the school to report an absence, but emails will no longer be accepted.
In addition, when a student is absent from school, but the school did not receive communication from the parent or guardian, the following communication will be sent:
- A text message will be sent midmorning notifying the parent or guardian of the absence
- An email will also be sent at the end of the school day reminding the parent or guardian that the student was marked absent.
Thank you for your attention to this.
District Information
New Student Registration
If you will have a new student (kindergarten, first grade) attending Central Bucks in the fall of 2022, now is the time to register. Enrollment for all new students (grades kindergarten through 12) is now ongoing. It is strongly recommended that you submit your application no later than June 1, 2022.
Registering students now ensures that buildings plan for appropriate staff and resources for the coming year. Visit www.cbsd.org/register to complete the process online. If your student is currently enrolled, it is not necessary to re-register them, this process is for new students only.
Visit www.cbsd.org/register for more details, including necessary documents to gather in order to register children. Please consider as soon as possible to aid the district in its planning for 2022-2023.
CBSD Technology when Traveling
Currently, the Technology and Innovation Department blocks Microsoft Office 365 logins to Outlook, OneDrive, ClassLink, and Canvas from foreign countries. This aids in protecting our CBSD user accounts and organization from malicious computer attacks from outside of the United States.
Students who travel cannot assume their devices will work once they leave the United States. For student out-of-country access requests, please know that access to technology for vacations will not be approved at this time.

Breakfast and Lunch Programs
In April 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service extended the program that will provide for free meals for all students, regardless of income, for the 2021-22 school year. This has been made possible by nationwide waivers that provide for free meals for all students through June 2022.
All menus are available to be viewed online up to 2 weeks in advance by visiting www.cbsd.nutrislice.com.
Students are entitled to one complete reimbursable breakfast per day and one complete reimbursable lunch per day. Any second entrée will be charged to the students’ lunch account. We encourage all families to put money on their students account through MySchoolBucks.com as there will be no cash transactions this year in an effort to serve the students as safely and swiftly as possible.
