Message from Superintendent Mike Johnson

The last several weeks at Creswell School District have been filled with celebrations. Whether watching the Creslane students enjoy the PTO-sponsored pumpkin patch during their harvest party, seeing CMS students attend a career expo or apply science and technology lessons in an attempt to protect pumpkins from the effects of gravity, or rooting for our high school athletes during their final games and races of the season, there have been many reasons to cheer.

One of the most important reasons to celebrate is having students in our schools, learning every day. We know that nearly all children learn better when taught in-person and that children and families rely on schools to provide a caring and safe environment. As the weather turns colder and people spend more time indoors, please continue doing your part to protect our staff and students' health. If your child is experiencing symptoms or has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, keep them home and contact your student's school. This care and concern for one another helps teach our students important lessons about responsibility and community. As always, thank you for your support of education and Creswell's children!

REMINDER: No School - November 5th & 11th

As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 5th or Thursday, November 11th. Friday, November 5th is a grading day for teachers. Thursday, November 11th is Veterans Day. Thank you, veterans, for your service to our country!

Creswell Season of Giving

It's time once again for Creswell's Season of Giving, a program designed to provide holiday support to those in need. Each year, our generous community helps by providing gifts, clothing, and extra food to CSD families during the holidays. If you are in need of assistance this holiday season, please reach out to receive an application. If you would like to sponsor a family or child contact the Family Resource Center. For more details, click here or contact Kathryn Dumas, Family Resource Coordinator, at kdumas@creswell.k12.or.us.

COVID-19 Vaccines for Children 5-11

On November 3, 2021, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the recommendation for COVID-19 vaccines for children five and older. Following this announcement, Governor Kate Brown announced that children age 5 and older across Oregon are now eligible for the vaccine.

COVID vaccines are free, available at no cost, and an important tool to keep our children learning in-person all year long. Vaccinated students do not quarantine or get excluded from school when they have been exposed to COVID-19 unless they are showing symptoms.

Lane County Public Health (LCPH) has been working with local pediatric and family care practices, pharmacies, community-based organizations, and schools to develop a comprehensive strategy to meet the demand for COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 following federal and state approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine.

Effective November 9th, all LCPH clinics will be by appointment only and LCPH's scheduling tool will be live by the morning of Friday, November 5, 2021. Parents and guardians can schedule appointments at: Get Vaccinated - Lane County or by calling (541) 682-1380.

To see a list of upcoming LCPH clinic dates/times, click on the "COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics for Kids 5-11" tab located at the bottom of LCPH's COVID-19 Vaccines for Children and Teens web page.

Volunteering in CSD

Creswell School District welcomes and appreciates the many volunteers who help enrich our programs and make a difference for Creswell’s students. Before assisting in a school, volunteers must complete a criminal history verification form and, to adhere to state regulations, provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Signing up is easy. Simply stop by the Creswell School District Office at 998 West A Street to complete the background form and share proof of vaccination. Breanna Manzone will be happy to make a copy of your vaccination card and can answer any questions you may have. You can reach her via email at bmanzone@creswell.k12.or.us.

National Principals Month

As we close out National Principals Month, we are proud to recognize the wonderful work of CSD's two assistant principals: Creslane Elementary's Summer Martin and CHS' Brandon Standridge.

This is Summer Martin's first year as CES Assistant Principal. Because she believes deeply in the importance of education for all, she loves the fact that she gets to be part of that process and appreciates all aspects of the role. "I enjoy being a problem solver and helper which is basically the foundation of this position. Being a principal is so rewarding because I am able to help students, staff, families, and even community members daily." Thank you so much for your service to our educational community and students, Assistant Principal Martin!

Big picture
It was Brandon Standridge's love of sports that drew him to a career in education. When he first started coaching, it changed his perspective on what he wanted to do and we are so lucky it did. As CHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Brandon enjoys Creswell's small school atmosphere and the connections that are created because of that. It's clear that Brandon is used to wearing many different hats. When asked about his own favorite experience as a student, he shared that it would be impossible to choose between playing in a state championship for baseball, winning one for band, going to Hawaii with the HS band or being on stage for a school play. We are grateful to have such an incredible, well-rounded assistant principal and AD who encourages our students in ALL their endeavors. Thank you, Assistant Principal Standridge, for helping our students learn valuable skills -- both on and off the court.
