RES Weekly Buzz

RES has been fortunate to have a few wonderful opportunities for field trips this fall. It's been a nice treat to have different groups reach out to the RES Community, offering free educational field trips for our students based on the academic standards for their particular grades. Of course, there is always fun thrown in there as well. This week, our 2nd graders visited the Cape Ann Museum and studied animal habitats with our friends from Kestrel. Our 3rd graders had a walking field trip around Rockport. They experienced ways businesses contribute to the community, saw how Town Hall works, met selectmen, and visited the Fire Station and Town Library. Our 5th graders participated in the first of three learning experiences with Maritime Gloucester, which was all about water on Earth. We are excited about our many opportunities for hands-on learning experiences with our students led by great professionals within our community. We look forward to the field trips still to come, both on and off the RES campus.
We also experienced the first concert featuring RES students. Our 4th and 5th grade orchestra musicians performed at the RPS Orchestra Summit. It was amazing to see the progression of skills of the students from 4th through 12th grade. Thank you to Mr. Cohen, his co-teachers: Mr. Baum, Mr. Clements, Mr. Gonzalez, Ms. Pisaturo, Ms. Reisman, and their special guest, Ms. Guzman; and a huge shout out to the Balourdet Quarter for working with our students and sharing a fantastic performance with us. Thank you to all of the friends and families who came out to support our fabulous orchestra students! AND THANK YOU TO ROCKPORT MUSIC who sponsored this year's summit residency.

Notes from Nurse Wagner
There are many students in school with food allergies. Please remember we are a NUT-FREE school. Also, please remind your child that they should NOT share ANY snacks with other students during classroom snack time.
As we enter into the holiday season and many families are traveling, please remain diligent about monitoring your child for illness. If your child has any illness symptoms, please test them with an at-home rapid COVID test. Free COVID test kits are available from the Town of Rockport. Reach out to the Board of Selectmen's Office at Town Hall during their business hours. You can review the RPS COVID protocol here.
Please remember to keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms and/or illnesses:
Fever of 100.0 or higher (may return to school once fever-free for 24 hours without use of analgesics)
Vomiting or Diarrhea (may return to school once symptom-free for 24 hours)
Positive diagnosis of influenza (may return to school after 5 days as long as no fever/vomiting/diarrhea for at least 24 hours)
Positive diagnosis of COVID (may return to school after 5 days if symptom-free and must wear a mask)
Strep throat, conjunctivitis, impetigo or any other contagious illness that requires antibiotic treatment (may return to school after being on antibiotic for at least 24 hours)
Cold symptoms and respiratory illnesses (students should remain home until symptoms have improved)
Any undiagnosed skin condition with open lesions and/or rash (must be seen by pediatrician for diagnosis before returning to school)
For any questions or to report your child's illness, please call the RES health office at 978-546-1223 or email rwagner@rpk12.org .

Public Survey on Accessibility of Town Facilities, Programs, and Services
We need your help! The Town of Rockport is in the process of developing a Self-Evaluation and
Transition Plan to ensure residents and visitors have access to all Town buildings, programs, and
services. The Town has engaged the Edward J. Collins Center for Public Management to assist with the plan, which is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991 (ADA). An important part of this planning process is providing opportunities for the public to offer input and voice concerns.
This survey is intended to gather preliminary data to assist the planning team in identifying any barriers to access for individuals with disabilities at Town buildings or within the programs and services it currently offers. Once the initial study is completed, the Town will solicit additional input on how to best address any deficiencies that are found.
Please take a few minutes to complete this important accessibility survey at the following link:
If you need assistance in completing this survey or would like to request an alternative format, please contact Marcia Birmingham at marcia.birmingham@umb.edu or call the Collins Center at 617-287-4824. We sincerely appreciate your time and effort in helping to ensure Rockport remains a great place to live for ALL our residents.
