A Message from Mr. Park
I hope your children enjoyed Funtastic Friday. If we were in person, the first Friday of the school year is a much lighter day and in order to replicate that, teachers were asked to provide an afternoon of asynchronous activities that allowed for students to be off screen and provided some "recess" time.
Please note that this is NOT a typical Friday schedule. Typical Fridays will follow the Tuesday through Friday academic schedule.
We will have other Funtastic Friday type days on special occasions like Halloween, Winter Celebration, etc...
With that said, I'm am well aware of family concerns regarding screen time. Our teachers are working within teams to provide students with a schedule that is more balanced and will have less screen time than in the first week of school.
Teachers will be providing finalized schedules by Friday, September 18th.
Please remember that this is only the 6th day of school.
Our staff is working diligently to make adjustments to best meet the needs of our students and families.
Gratitude
Families have expressed concerns, but have also taken time to send emails and call to encourage the efforts of our staff. Please know that the few minutes you take to send a message of encouragement to staff members fuels their passion and commitment to serve and love your students.
Thank you for being so generous with your time and words of encouragement.
Google Meets and Zoom -- Live Streaming Platforms
I know this is a big ask considering all that's taking place with the transition, but I am asking folks to download the Zoom application to the device your child is using.
Once you download the application, it is very easy to just click a Zoom link and enter the virtual room.
Why another platform?
- Each of the platforms offer some different options. There are circumstances and learning experiences that are sometimes best supported by Google Meets and others that are best supported by Zoom. For example, when meeting with large groups (30 + students) Zoom offers options that make for a better experience.
- There are times when I will be inviting large groups of students to a meeting. Mrs. Rick, school counselor, will also be leading large group sessions.
Directions for downloading application if you haven't already done so.
This will only take a few minutes.
Zoom does have a wait room option. So when you click the Zoom link, it will place you in a virtual waiting room. Just sit tight and the meeting host will let you into the meeting.
Recording Live Sessions
If we were in person and you were visiting classrooms, visitors cannot record or take pictures of students.
This policy stands in a virtual setting as well.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
A Message from Ms. Sicolo (for 4th and 5th Grade students playing and instrument)
