LES Mission and Vision
Our Mission:
Leonardtown Elementary emphasizes that a Passion for Learning and Respect are essential for the academic and personal success of our school community.
Our Vision:
At LES in partnership with parents and community, we share the belief that all children can and will learn by empowering them to discover their strengths and maximum potential. Everyone is encouraged to strive for excellence-academically, emotionally, and socially.
Destination Imagination
There is still space for students interested in joining Destination Imagination Teams. Destination Imagination is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students' creativity, courage, and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of STEM, fine arts, and service learning. The challenges for the current DI season can be found here:

LES Veteran FLoat Decorating Day
The Leonardtown Veterans Parade is one of the biggest in the region. LES has traditionally been the only school in SMCPS to have a float in the parade.
On Thursday, November 7th, we will be working with students to decorate and prepare our float for the parade. Students are hard at work learning patriotic songs and completing artwork to prepare for the parade.
On the evening of the float decorating, there will be hot chocoalate and pastries to enjoy while we work. Please plan to join us!
So that we can prepare, please RSVP that you are coming to join us in the fun! Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Thank you
See you there!

Students should meet at St. Mary's Ryken High School at 8:45 a.m. Parents/guardians may take the shuttle with students from Leonardtown Middel School to St. Mary's Ryken or students may be dropped out with LES school staff at St. Mary's Ryken.
If students are dropped off with staff at St. Mary's Ryken, parent/guardian may pick the student up after the parade at (Slice House 41565 Park Avenue Leonardtown, MD 20650).
So that we can prepare and have enough staff on hand to monitor students, please RSVP for the day of the parade.

From Desk of Administration
LES will hold our Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 31.
The parade will begin at 2:45 p.m. with our Kindergarten students leading us out the Kindergarten side doors onto the sidewalk in front of the bus loop. We will proceed along the sidewalk to the blacktop of the bus loop in front of the school building and then back into the school through the 5th-grade doors.
Parent viewing areas will be the blacktop in the car pick up loop area and along the sidewalk in front of the bus loop area.
If applicable, each grade level or class will communicate their party times and needs.
We ask that you avoid any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons. Props that come with costumes that are play weapons are not allowed in school. This includes, but is not limited to, toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc. Costumes should be worn to school.
Please park in the staff parking lot or walk to the parade from Duke Street. Parking will NOT be permitted in the bus loop.
If there is rain, there will not be a rain date for the parade, but the classroom parties will proceed.
If you prefer that your child does not take part in the Halloween Parade and/or party, please send a note to your child’s teacher or contact Dr. Quick-McQueen or Mr. LaCount.
Unity Day: Wear Orange on October 23rd
Please encourage your child to wear orange in recognition of Unity Day on Wednesday, October 23rd! Thank you for your support!
Flu Clinic Preparation
If you have completed and returned a Flu Vaccine Consent Form for your child to receive the injectable vaccine on October 22nd, please consider the following suggestions to help prepare them and minimize distress.
- “You will get a medicine called a vaccine in the arm with a needle.”
- “It will keep you healthy, which helps keep your baby sister/grandparent/others healthy.”
- “You will feel a pinch and some pressure, but it will be very quick.”
- “It will hurt a little bit, but you will be ok.”
We will have LES staff and volunteers in place to assist the nurses in administering the vaccine. Children who are extremely hesitant will NOT be vaccinated and you will be notified by Nurse Williams. If you turned in a consent form for the school clinic and your child already received the vaccine elsewhere, please email the School Nurse at lmwilliams@smcps.org. If you would like a blank consent form, please contact the School Nurse at 301-475-0250.
