New Year's Resolution
As we head into the new year, MoASSP recommends one resolution for you. If you haven't signed up as an advocate through the MoASSP Action Center, please do so. It only takes a few seconds. Your principal voice is essential as we move into the 2019 legislative session. There isn't a better way for you to help educate legislators than to invite them to come to your school for a visit and shadow you. When you do, take a photo or two, and tag us @MoASSP.
Coming in 2019

Calling ALL Retired Missouri Principals
The MoASSP staff is in the process of reconnecting with retired principals around the state. Currently, we have eighty-one retired principals who have either a lifetime membership (one time fee of $112) or pay their dues ($34) annually. Please help us pass the word to colleagues around the state who are no longer employed full-time in education and encourage them to reconnect with MoASSP. Here is a link you can send them...Calling All Retired Missouri Principals

Greater Kansas City Announces EOC Workshops
Contributed by Dr. Charlie Belt, Principal, Blue Springs South HS and President of GKCMoASSP.
Now that we have each received initial EOC data from 2017-18, and will begin testing the revised biology curriculum this spring, the GKCMPA HS Principal's Roundtable has elected to bring back our EOC workshops. During the week of January 14-18, the following schools will host workshops:
- January 14 Biology at Grain Valley High School RSVP here
- January 15 Algebra II at Lee's Summit High School 8:00 am to 2:00 pm RSVP here
- January 16 English II at Oak Park High School 8:00 am to Noon RSVP here
- January 17 Algebra I at Blue Springs Freshman Center 8:00 am to 2:30 pm RSVP here
You are invited to RSVP by January 7 with the name of an influential teacher, representing each content area, for each respective workshop. Once names have been collected, the assigned facilitator will reach out to the invited teachers, assigning each one a lesson or two to bring. Lessons will be assigned based upon the expectations (standards) we are expected to cover.
Ultimately, each teacher should return home with a portfolio of strong lessons tied to each of the expectations (standards) found within each course which can then be shared with colleagues. Additionally, participating teachers will receive instruction regarding interpreting and utilizing released data and will be provided time to collaborate with fellow teachers of their subject area.
There is no cost for teachers to participate. That said, the RSVP system must be honored so all participating teachers end up contributing to the overall effort. Participating teachers will be given one hour to go off-site and enjoy lunch.
To sign up your staff member, please fill out the linked RSVP located above. If for some reason you are unable to fill out the form, send your teachers' names and email addresses to the following appropriate contact:
- Biology: nsmall@gvr5.net
- Algebra II: Sherri.kane@lsr7.net
- English II: Christopher.Sartain@nkcschools.org
- Algebra I: cdierking@bssd.net
Many thanks to John Faulkenberry (LSHS), Jeremy Plowman (GVHS), Chris Sartain (OPHS), and Doug Mattson (BSFC) for coordinating and hosting these workshops.
