Special Speaker Coming to Walnut On March 30th
We will have a great speaker for our ELAC meeting! Dr. Jesus Vega is the Student Success & Support Supervisor for Moorpark College. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of California Irvine, a Masters of Arts in Chicano Studies and his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University Northridge. For the past eight years, he assisted high school students navigate higher education through the Dual Enrollment Program at Santa Barbara City College. For two years, Dr. Vega has been providing college-going information to local middle school and high school students as well as adult learners in the community. He will be here in Walnut to share his personal experiences and to talk about the importance of a college education. He will also inform parents about the programs and resources Moorpark College offer. It’s never too early to start dreaming!
The ELAC meeting will be held on March 30th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the MPR. We will provide a light dinner at 5:30 and childcare will be provided during the meeting. The ELAC meetings are held to engage and support parents of EL students, but if anyone else is interested in attending, the registration forms will be available at the front office. We are looking forward to see you there!
PTA NEWS
Upcoming PTA Events
Spring Fundraiser, March 1st-14th--Students will be bringing home envelopes with information on our Kids are First fundraiser on Wednesday, March 1st. All proceeds go directly to school activities and events funded by PTA, including assemblies, field trips, and special programs like art, music, and drama. Please return packets by Tuesday, March 24th.
It's Not Too Early to Think About Next Year! PTA is looking for people who care about kids, like to have fun, and are willing to help make next year's assemblies and events a reality. Whether you have a little time to give or a lot, we can use YOU! Volunteers are always needed to help with events like Monster Mash, Field Day, the Fun Run, the Holiday Shop, etc. Right now we are in need of people willing to serve on the 2016-17 board. If you can help, please give your name to the office or to a current PTA board member, such as Claudia Hernandez, Megan McKee, Connie Thomas, Sue Jericho, Kelly Davis, Kari Davis-Gaytan, or Shannon Prachyl. You'll be helping the school and forming lasting friendships in the process. Whether you can do a little or a lot, PTA needs you!
