7th and 8th Grade News

Week of January 11th

Hawk Happenings

Hello all Parents and Guardians!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Here's what's new this week in 7th and 8th Grade:

Stealing Buddha's Dinner

We will begin reading this book as a class next week. I was originally planning on having us start today, but not enough students have purchased the book. I've seen it range from about $13 to less than a dollar in price, depending on where you shop. Here it is on amazon again, in case you would like an easy link [http://www.amazon.com/Stealing-Buddhas-Dinner-Bich-Nguyen/dp/1501285211]. If you have not yet purchsed the book for your student, please do it as soon as possible. If you need help with finding or obtaining the book, please let me know as soon as possible so that I may assist where I can. If we can get at lest 10 students with a copy, we'll be able to at least read in partners so that we can start next week. So please don't worry if you have a late shipping date. Any other questions or concerns, please email me. [gabe.farias@hrrsjda.org].

Half-Day Wednesday

This Wednesday, there will be a professional development day for teachers between the hours of 1pm and 3pm. Therefore, school will be getting out at 12pm noon on Wednesday January 13th, 2016. Breakfast will be provided as normal, but lunch will only be served to students attending extended care. Please plan accordingly.

January 18th - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day/ No SCHOOL

On Monday, January 18th, there will be no school in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Please plan accordingly.

January 15th - MLK Remembrance

Four students from the 7th grade (Esmeralda Herrera, Isabella Bosteder, Miguel Plancarte, and Christopher Ramos) were selected to learn a portion of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech to read in front of the school. These four were given their copies of the speech on Thursday, and should be practicing throughout this week. The script does not need to be memorized, however, the student should be able to read their part slowly and smoothly without stutters, stammers, or mispronunciations.

Tutoring this Week

I will only be available for tutoring this week after school on Tuesday and Thursday. Pleas email if you plan on having your student attend tutoring. You can pick them up at 4pm.

Any questions, comments, or concerns, pleas do not hesitate to email me right away. Thanks and have a wonderful week.
