Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
February 21, 2020
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
On Tuesday, February 18 we had a bus running late which caused our morning drop-off line to operate a bit differently. Typically, once the last bus arrives I walk back towards the school which is the signal that vehicles may now pull into the parking lot via the bus lane. However, there are a couple of items that I would like to refresh in our minds so that we are providing the safest environment for our students:
- If I am at the entrance, the bus lane is closed and drop-offs must occur on 7th Avenue.
- Please do not park in the drop-off lane on 7th Avenue in the morning; if you would like to drive into the parking lot for drop-off please circle around until the bus lane is open.
- If you need to visit the building in the morning, please roll down your window and communicate your reason(s) to me.
- Do NOT use your cell phone while operating your vehicle; this is both illegal to do so in Illinois and puts children at risk due to distracted driving (fines upwards of $1,000).
- Expect an increased presence of law enforcement during drop-off and pick-up times; I have been told that speeding 7 to 8 miles per hour over the limit can incur a fine of around $200.
At the end of the day, the reason school zones are in effect are to help keep students safe while they are coming to school or leaving school. Thank you for understanding and helping to make Fulton Elementary School the greatest little elementary school in the universe!

Next week FES will be taking part in the Pennies for Patients Program. This spare change collection fundraiser gets students involved with helping children beat cancer. Students are encouraged to bring in any spare change that they have at home. They may use the boxes that were sent home or they may bring the change back in ziplock bags. Students will deposit the money in a special bag in their classroom. We will have special dress up days next week. If the school as a whole raises $500 or more, the classroom that raises the most money will receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card to be used towards books or games for their classroom.
The dress up days are as follows:
Feb. 24- Plaid Penny Day-Wear your favorite plaid and bring in pennies or other spare change.
Feb. 25- Neon Nickels Day-Wear neon colors and bring in nickels or other spare change.
Feb. 26- Dazzling Dimes Day-Donate dimes or other change and wear something shiny or something that makes you different and unique.
Feb. 27-Crazy Quarters Day-Wear crazy socks and cash in your quarters or any other spare change.
Feb. 28-Steamers support LLS-Wear your favorite Steamer clothing or red and black and collect all coins and dollars.

Hoodie-Hoo Day!
On Thursday, February 20, students in Miss Dornbuhs's class celebrated Hoodie-Hoo Day! Hoodie-Hoo day is celebrated in a strange way!
What happens is you’re supposed to go out at noon, wave your hands over your head and shout “Hoodie-Hoo” to scare away Winter and make way for Spring!
Kindergarten hopes it worked! We are ready for spring weather!
Book Creator in 1A and 3C!
It's Payday!
Let’s make a trip to the grocery store!
2A kiddos did just that!
The students were paid a certain amount of money and their counting money skills were put to the test! Some even loved the challenge of helping the cashier give change back! They learned quickly how fast $20.00 goes!
Valentine's Day in 5B
Mystery Poster
The LRC has been creating a mystery poster with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Students receive a small square sticker to put on the poster after they have checked out books. The color of the sticker is matched up to certain letters. This poster was started at the beginning of January! Can you guess what it is?
Let's get moving FES!
